      Question Laptop to blame???

We are having problems maintaining a wireless connection, sometimes getting a connection at all with Sky BB Connect. Been on to Sky countless times, they have said tonight Sky connection is excellent and in some cases computer is the problem and to contact the manufacturer. Has anyone else heard of this on a Sony Vaio laptop?
It's my dads BB, I've took my laptop (a newer version of the Vaio) and it works great...any ideas?

I would try looking for updated drivers possibly for your Dad's laptop and see if they help.

You can get the most recent drivers for Sony Vaio here

Sadly, with wireless it can sometimes be a bit hit and miss. Does being closer to the Router help or does it happen no matter where you are in the house?

Thats a very bold statement from Sky!! Sounds like they think there equipment can never fail!! I doult that.
Firstly have you tried turning uPNP off in the router menu which a common source of problems? Is it definately the wireless that is failing? Can you get to router menu by typing 192.168.0.1 when it is in the failed state? if so wireless is working.
Try to borrow another laptop from a friend to test your connection it is always possible you have a faulty router. Doe's it still disconnect if your laptop is close to the router? Any portable phone bases near router, these can cause interference.
Lots of possibilitys before blaming the laptop.

PS: My Aunt rang Sky the other night because her Sky email wasn't working and she was advised to contact Microsoft!!!
I went round there reset her password on the sky.com website "bingo" all up and running again!!! I do wonder what Sky are on about some days!!!

      Re: Laptop to blame???

Yes I have tried turning the UPnp off, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've taken my laptop (also a Sony Vaio but a newer model) and it connects and works fine!! It definately seems to be the laptop, but just don't know what or where to look really. Have looked at internet connections etc on mine and checked they are the same (I have Sky BB at home, very successfully).

Will try upgrading the pc tonight and see if that makes a difference.
