What to do with existing provider before joining sky?

Hi, i am going to join sky broadband and get a tv package with it. Sky say i have to get a MAC code from my existing provider (Tiscali) however i am usure what i have to do after i get it. Do i cancel Tiscali after receiveing my MAC code and join sky, or do i get the MAC code from Tiscali and join sky, then cancel Tiscali later on? I get my tiscali bill for this month on April the 6th but i don't want to be charged since i'm switching, so please can anyone help me?

Get your MAC from Tiscali but do not cancel your contract with them until your Sky broadband is installed and confirmed working. You are going to end up paying on the 6th April.

Hi, once you get the MAC code from Tiscali, you simply call Sky and request to migrate to them or you can do it online at http://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/shop/products

Basically Sky will then send you a connection date and take over from there. Any outstanding invoices with Tiscali, well thats best speaking to them about if you have anything outstanding..

      Hope that helps..

When I changed over I was in a similar position - I went live with Sky about the 19th of the month. Consequently Plusnet reimbursed me for the unused part of the month I had paid for on the 2nd of the month. So I didnt loose out.

But do remember not to cancel Tiscalli - it should all happen automatically!

It should do but it doesn't always happen. So when you are up and running with Sky phone Tiscalli up to see if your account with them is closed and if not make sure that they close it there and then. Also make sure that you don't owe them anything or even that they owe you something depending on when you account is closed and when you are usually billed.

Re: What to do with existing provider before joining sky?

thanks for all your help guys, i'll call Tiscali tommorow and ask for a MAC code.

By the way, the sky website says you can get 10 credit for joining with them online, what does this mean? does it just mean they are gonna knock 10 off my bill?

      thanks
