Well that didn't last long, Tyred to connect again and nothing, had to re boot, it seams that if one PC is on and connected turning another on knocks the connection off.

Called Sky, and they said nothing wrong with the line. OK then he tried to tell me having 3 PC's connected to the router could be the problem Whats the point of having a 4 port router if you can only use 1 PC, and anyway never had the problem with my old router and ISP, anyway they are going to send out a new box. Don't think for one second thats the problem.

It could very well be the router that is at fault. I have a sneaky feeling that, due to the very large order, Netgear's standards may have dropped, with little or no product inspection/testing. This may account for Sky's willingness to replace suspect routers at the drop of a hat.

As for 3 PCs causing the trouble, that is nonsense and just shows again the low standard of Sky's CS.

Did you turn the wireless off?

It isn't necessary to install the Sky on any of the PC's. Provided your network and internet settings are correct ( and there are only one or two of them ) then everything will work fine from your PC's.

Don't trust the list of connected items in the router.

Have you tried resetting the router? I am prmarily concerned here that either the DCHP server is not allocating different IP's or the PC's are not accepting them. Check the range the DCHP server is allocating over. Once you power up a PC, check it's IP. Then power up a second, and wait a while, then check that ones IP. Is it different? I mean the fact that it once complained that the IP was the same is a big hint that something is going wrong in the allocation of addresses.

      Re: For gods Sake Help

I have the same problem with having to reboot router when my wifes PC is switched on. I have 4 wired PC's a nd this is the only one that seems to freeze the router. The netgear firmware doesn't help this neither does the UberGT modded firmware, which does fix the dropping speed over time. I have norrowed it down to the network card,as if I change the network cards between my wifes PC and my daughters PC then it's my daughters PC that causes the router to freeze. Also this NEVER happened on ANY of my other routers I've had. I might just buy a new network card for her at 5 in maplins it'll almost certainly fix the problem.

PS she has some kind of Dlink card with a DL chipset, that can use the dlink, matronix and even the realtech 8139 drivers. This DEFINATLY does NOT have a realtek chip on the board as all my other network cards have a realtek chip on them.

      Re: For gods Sake Help

OK I checked in router settings and "use router as DHCP server is on and IP address range is starting at 192.168.0.2 and ending 192.168.0.254

Into attached devices My PC Is recognised with Ip address ending .3
Switch on Wifes PC shows as Unrecognised with IP address ending .4

      Restart My PC,

Internet speed has dropped to about dial up on my PC. press reset button on modem, speed back to normal and IP address now ends .2 but cant start outlook express, re start PC and all OK. The same thing happens with daughters PC. Last night I switched on and she lost her internet connection, and I couldn't get one until I rebooted the router.

All network connections on all our PC's are built into the motherboards.

Looks as though the DNS Server problem rears it's ugly head again. Go to Sky Homepage, Customer Support, Broadband, Troubleshooting, Unable to Browse the Internet.

Had a very similar problem to this once and it turned out to be that WPA security was causing the problem. Could connect one computer then booting up another one would kick the first one off. Set the security to 128 bit WEP and all was fine.

      Re: For gods Sake Help

Well so far all was going well today till 9pm when the Internet connection dropped. Only my daughter was on line at the time, and after a re boot all is OK. I have sent a snotty email to sky. Oh yes and I completely removed the McAfee (McRappy) security centre It started blocking outgoing emails and scanning them even though I had told it not to. On line help wouldn't work and nether would a re install so its gone and AVG free is back
