New Sky Mid Connection (Apalling Speeds)

I'm a newbie to this forum so greetings to all!!

Just activated yesterday and the download speeds are pretty awful I will post full stats later. I'm about 3KM away from my exchange which is LLU enabled and my attenuation is about 65db. Sky tell me I should be getting about 6000kbs not 850kbs. This is very poor I'm hoping it's not the quality of the line from the exchange. I have tried the master socket and will try the test socket later on. I have only just moved into my house and see that there quite a few bodged extention installs. I don't know how to tell if I'm on the LLU or if I'm on standard ADSL. As The braodband resource tells me I won't get more than 1MB on standard ADSL, so I think I could be on that. I must admit Sky techncial support where is helpful as they could be but I feel there are a few more "Experts" on this forum

      many thanks

      Matt

      Hi, welcome to the forum

With an attenuatin of 65db, you could not expect to get more than about 2000 kbps with a good line. I think sky is being a little optimistic

Post your stats later and the tech guys will take a look to see what can be done.

Re: New Sky Mid Connection (Apalling Speeds)

Yes, I would certainly say that the attenuation is your problem. That is a high figure for 3km. If your noise is high too then it could account for the low speeds you are getting.

Re: New Sky Mid Connection (Apalling Speeds)

Just a thought the guys in Sky Technical Support said that this slow sync speed is most likely down to the initial connection, said it would speed up after 3 days. Is this true ? I'm not sure I believe them.

Re: New Sky Mid Connection (Apalling Speeds)

Well, actually, there may be some truth in it. My initial connection was very slow indeed ( 150kb/s ), but then over the following 24 hours, it speeded up to a constant 1500kb/s.

By trying the test socket that should disconnect your extension wiring, if it all looks a bit diy you might find it is causing problems.

Re: New Sky Mid Connection (Apalling Speeds)

      These are my Router statistics

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 16.0 db
Noise Margin 16.5 db 14.0 db

what kind of download speeds should I expect and how can I properly test them??? I find it all very confusing you see.
I should explain,my line has been slowed to this because of unstable connection and usually I have max package.

      thanks for any help people.

Please don't hijack other peoples threads.

It makes it difficult to answer the Original Poster and causes confusion when replying to multiple posts.

It's much easier to answer individual's questions if posted separately in a new thread in the appropriate forum.
