Migration of service - No internet for 2 weeks!

first post so please bear in mind if I've missed a post detailing this info (I've had a look)

I was with UKonline (Sky have taken them over I believe) and have just switched to Sky broadband. I currently have a Netgear DG834G wifi router. I was told there would be no interruption in my service. Yesterday UkOnline killed their connection for me. this was confirmed by them. spoke to Sky and they say I'm not due to be connected until the 11/4 and to expect my router and set-up details before.

Now as you can understand I'm not happy at 2 weeks without internet access. I'm going to speak to Sky and let them know but I'd rather do this with some info behind me.

If I get the login details and set up my router could I get access before that date?

      thanks for any help.

You will only be able to get the log-in details from your Sky router, and as a heads up, using a non-Sky router breaks your T and C's although Sky have not enforced this yet.

I would ting Sky and tell them obviously you are not happy and I would also resign myself to the fact that you are going to be without bb for some time.

Not the news you want to hear, but you may get some compensation if you argue your case, calmly and politely.

      Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was pretty sure I'd be tied to the Sky router but that's not a problem. I'll speak to them and see if the date can be improved. I thought this whole migration business has been improved. Oh well I'll just have to live without bb for a while.

      thanks again.

What NewsReadeR says is correct in my experience.

I had to wait more than 2 weeks for the router to be delivered and the Sky Customer Service folk don't really know much.

I'm sure there are folk there that do but when you pay to call them and it's a hit and miss as to who (and where) you speak to someone I think this is just plain wrong.

If I were you after my experience I wouldn't even bother calling them.

In my case when I was asking where my router was they told me it had not been sent but 3 eventually turned up the next day (18 days after internet was cut)! Juts as well as the first one failed after 24 hours!

Re: Migration of service - No internet for 2 weeks!

Why oh why did I change to Sky?!! phoned up last night as meant to be conncted today to ask where my router was. Was then told that as I was coming from UKOnline they could not connect to the Sky broadband. Was then put through 3 people and in the end on hold for so long I hung up. Been told I have to cancel the connection and go with somebody else! this is a joke!

How can they not know this stuff? surely I can change from UkOnline to Sky?

Please somebody save my sanity and let me know what I can do.

      thanks.

I'm currently migrating from UKOnline also, i had to wait 5 days after cancelling with UKOnline until my line was clear. The I ordered SKY BB on 02/04/07, still no router has arrive, i have no activation date yet. Been without BB for two weeks now. This sucks.

      Isn't the digital age great!

Been reading threads on here and one person moved over with their MAC code but others have had to cancel. so hit and miss. It's pathetic really.

The UKOnline CR said that in her 9 months working for the company she had never seen someone successfully migrate from UKOnline to SKYBB using a MAC.

Re: Migration of service - No internet for 2 weeks!

Well I guess that gives me an answer. already 2 weeks with no net access and I guess looking at at least another if this is the case. I know it's not the fault of anybody here so no use me complaining but it's a joke. you would think Sky would be able to tell you this problem when you sign up or are they just not bothered....

Thanks for the replies. appreciate it.

Re: Migration of service - No internet for 2 weeks!

Well what a farce. I've cancelled my order with Sky. I'd rather pay somebody more than deal with this company for my broadband. I'll use my MAC code and go elsewhere.

thanks for the help though chaps.
