      Newbie: Slow Speeds; Dropped Connections

UPDATED: I now have another problem - i keep getting STOP Errors. It seems to be when im using Azereus. I have turned off UPnP (as my i kept losing connection) and port forwarded as ive been advised to and the speeds of download seem to be improving, but now im getting thse errors and my computer just automatically restarts. Does anyone have any suggestions what i can do? Also my connection speed fluctuates between 1.8Mbps and 9Mbps. As a Max customer im not ahppy with this- any ideas for that too?

      Hi all

I've recently discovered your forums and have had Sky BB activated yesterday. I have a few questions that i would appreciate answers to/help with.

I'm a Max customer with a wired connection. Im using an extension cord from my master port to my PC. Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB RAM.

      1) I have had a number of dropped connections and have no choice to reboot to get reconnected - is this how i deal with this?

      2) Im a MAX customer and these are my Stats:

      System Up Time 00:10:05
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 12946 20419 0 8250 49841 00:08:30
      LAN 10M/100M 20165 14210 0 43076 7701 00:10:03
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 96 0 0 19 0 00:09:53

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.0 db 15.1 db
Noise Margin 12.8 db 13.0 db

When i do a speed test i can get anything between 1.8mbps - 9mbps. Is this really the best i can hope for? i dont live far away from the exchange.

      3) Can running IE7 hinder performance? i had previously heard this caused problems for others, but thought i'd try it anyway.

      4) My best download speed on Azereus has been only 75kbs. Is this correct? People on here seem to be hitting 2-300kbs with less than 8mb connections.

I have followed some of the forum suggestions like TCP Optimiser and how to connect with Azereus. I still need to Port Forward, but if im honest im not too confident about doing that.

Any help anyone can give me is greatly appreciated- i have 5 days left to decide if i want to keep Sky BB. I never had any problems with my Supanet 2mb connection.

      Cheers

Try turning off the UPnP - bottom of this page

You really need to open the port in the router to do this

Re: Newbie: Slow Speeds; Dropped Connections

Ive already disabled UPnP. Ive had a connection drop since.

Is 9mbps the most im going to get?

I will follow your advice and port forward for Azereus.

P.S - is the router supposed to be that hot even after only 30 mins use?

Yes it is famous for running hot.

In the box it came in there is 2 little white feet thingies, attach them to the router and stand it upright to keep cooler.

or if you flung stands away turn it on its side resting against the monitor at an angle [might not look nice but keeps it nice and cool]
