New broadbander to Sky,happy it's free for now.

Having only been on Sky broadband for 3 weeks and a first time broadband user I am a little disappointed in the whole set up.I am not able to access the emails and the iniatial time scales given for the system to be online did not happen as stated.
While it's free I will stay but to retain my custom they will need to improve. The offer of free will be limited as they will creep in a payment for this on the same basis as they did with Sky TV.
Take advantage while we can and suffer the failures with as little grumbles as possible,if they fix it then it's a bonus.
IT IS FREE UNTILL THEY SLICKEN UP THE NUMBERS ON LINE then watch your mail box or letter box, the charges will come.

      Freeloader for now

      SM

Fair comment, but for me I was paying 30.00 a month for my broadband, so they can put it up by 20.00 for me and I am still getting better value than before

I was paying 30.00 as well so it is going to take years before the price reaches those heights and unlike the television industry there is far more competition in the broadband market.

They will charge sooner or later after all it's SKY isn't it? You know the company that charges double what anyone else in the world pays for satellite TV - that's what happens when there is no real competition. Virgin have found that out the hard way as well.

Re: New broadbander to Sky,happy it's free for now.

Virgin have found that out the hard way as well.
Virgin had a great Broadband service, until they bought it. Now look, in the space of a few months, they are losing their customers hand over fist (if we believe what we read)

What did they do to achieve this?

      Introduce traffic shaping

Misunderstand their customers viewing habits ie Sky One etc.

If any company is serious they would do research / market research. Surely VM must have known that people watch the Sky One channels on VM's network. Obviously they didn't as they would not have dismissed Sky and try to broker such a better deal.

Sorry but imho VM have brought this on themselves, and tbh are not competitively priced, they need to look at their core business and then start over. Oh and they should stop shouting fowl all the time.

Re: New broadbander to Sky,happy it's free for now.

sky will not start charging for the Base Package. It will always be free, basically because of what you get with the package. In fact, you will probably find that all ISPs with their own LLU equipment in the exchanges will be offering similar packages. Look at Orange broadband, they have a free package. as Do Talk Talk.

Basically, the only packages that will increase are Mid and Max. and that wont be for a while. They wont increase the Connect package, as Sky BB hope to be covering most of the UK by the end of next year, so they can afford to keep connect at 17/5 and Base free.
