Is traffic shaping to Connect package enforced 24 hours a day ?

The reason I ask is I use Giganews to download files and with or without data encryption selected my download speed is exactly the same. I tried it today around 11am and 5 mins ago - both times I am getting around 1.9Mbps.

When I first signed up with Sky my download speed was down to crawling pace until I used encryption and then it improved. Mind you, that may have been in my 10 day stabilisation period.

So does shaping only occur at peak times or all day/night ?

I have a choice of 2 different ports when I have SSL enabled using Giganews but is there a way of switching between ports on the router then?

In your newsgroup program change the port from 119 to 80

You dont even need to enable SSL

Thanks. I swapped to port 80 and switched the package I was on with Giganews to no SSL. The download speed remained the same for a day or so but my download that has been going for the last hour or so is struggling to get above 1Mbps. Do you use Giganews ? Has it dropped as I am not using SSL now or is it just the time of day ?

Re: Is traffic shaping to Connect package enforced 24 hours a day ?

Actually, upon further investigation my SSL is not deactivated until 7th April so for some unknown reason my download speed has dropped from just under 2 Mbps to 1.3 to 1.4 Mbps. This is by running 2 speed tests aswell.

Anyone know why this may have happened ?
