      New to this stuff.

      Hi there.
I have just signed up for the sky free broadband. they tell me that it will be active as of Monday. The interesting point, though, is the modem has not arrived. Not that I need it, because I already have a modem. I do not want to use the sky modem, because I have one here, but, can anyone tell me, is the username/password and setup details in with the modem sky are sending me? Or is in in some other "letter" or something?

Unfortunately you will have to wait on the Sky router, you username and password are hidden and can only be accessed by a special utility. Getting them from Sky, or anyone else is a strict no-no.

Spend some time browsing the forum, especially the Broadband Help and Router sections, and you will find out the procedures.

That's a bit stupid then. Why don't sky think of the possibility that someone may not actually want to use their modem? I don't know of anyone else who hides the logon and password in this way. Hmm. Unfortunately, I do need to find the logon and password.

I've heard that BT hides their broadband username and password in their Wireless routers. I maybe wrong. Not sure

You will find that sentiment repeated throughout the forum

Are BT ones customer specific, I remember it being like
      "btvoyager@bt.com"?

My old BT one was my email address with an extra digit or two in it.

Well you will not be able to, until your Sky modem arrives. Sky will not give you your username and password. They claim not to even know it!

      Re: New to this stuff.

Well, I must admit that I did spend a few minutes on the phone to support, before I realised how little they knew, then I just gave up on them. They really had no concept of the username and password I was talking about.

Well, I suppose that you can't really complain, since this is all free (ish). But I would be a little worried if I was actually paying for this service.
