Not as stupid as you may think, for technical support reasons it is by far better to deal with a one make of router rather than a multitude.

You can say that again, how many suppliers would like a contract to supply over 500,000 routers. Even at half retail cost, that is a multi-million pound contract, I think they must be working flat out. Maybe that accounts for many of the router failures that are being reported and then again, how many of the failures are down to the router and not the abysmal CS?

I dont believe the user name and password are specific to you but are specific to the router! It is hidden in the software. The reason I say that is because when you do get your hands on the un and pw you will find they are a random set of numbers and letters, and when Sky sent me a new router because it was believed mine was faulty the new one had a completely different user name and password! They both connect fine on my line and they both connect fine on my mates Sky connection round the corner.
This gives Sky the ability to send out new routers swap them about etc without worrying about having to set them up all the time. So if they dont know which particular router has been sent out to you they may well not know which user name and password is in it!
