Apart from requesting your MAC from Virgin, did you notify them of your having actually left for another ISP? I left one ISP for another but forgot to formerly request cancellation of my account. The following month I was charged by both ISPs. Check your Virgin terms and conditions and you'll likely find you need to send the accounts section an email or letter of cancellation.

Re: Been With Sky Nearly a Month - just got bill from old ISP !!!!

The MAC is only used when transfering from one supplier to another using the same type of connection, ie ADSL2 to ADSL2 or ADSL1 to ADSL1.

Virgin don't do ADSL2, as far as I'm aware, and you opted for the Mid package on Sky which is ADSL2, therefore the MAC was of no use to Sky.

You are also responsible for cancelling your account with your previous ISP, normally the use of a MAC will be enough, but as the MAC was not used your Virgin account was still open.

Re: Been With Sky Nearly a Month - just got bill from old ISP !!!!

Thats not quite correct I used my migration code from IPSTREAM which is not ADSL2 to LLU which can be GDMT / ADSL2 / ADSL2+

A MAC is required to move from one supplier to another and as from 14th February should mean any service whatsoever.

The only thing that would not need a MAC is:

      1) A new connection

      2) Moving from a cable phone to a BT phone (or a new connection)

Let me see if i've got this right - Virgin charge you for a service your no longer receiving off them and you phone Sky?

Get back on the phone to Mr Branson and find out if they normally charge in arrears or advance for the monthly recurring charge. Then raise the issue with them not Sky !

I'd also be inclined to email / snail mail a letter to virgin ensuring your account is definatley cancelled which will ensure your not charged again next month

You are not the first this has happened to and you will not been the last. Obtaining a MAC key is not notice to quit your old ISP, although, if it is used, some will accept it as such. Maybe the MODS could arrange to have a notice saying- Remember to give your former ISP notice that you are leaving - stuck to the top of the forum board.

Yeah common problem, I got a bill from BT 3 months after leaving, and there system even said I was still recieving there service even though they disconnected it at the exchange! Took several snotty emails to get them to refund the money they took from my bank account.

We used to have a sticky that Alan B started ages ago, but the number of thread views did not justify keeping it as a sticky

How about a few of us have this in our sig?

Please make sure you tell your old ISP that you have left and cancel your old direct debit.

That's the trouble with stickies, very few read them unless they are pointed to one in a thread.

      Good idea about the sig

I was about to say to say the same - it is a proven fact that people do not read stickies.
