Got home, typed User Name & Password into my Netgear DG834G and I'm online.

Now is there any benefit to using the Sky router rather than my DG834G ?

      I'm connected at 5376kbps down & 448kbps up.

The main advantage of using the Sky router is that you can sell your old one

I take that the figures you give are your sync speed rather than actual upload/download, I think you can do better. Given that you are closer to the exchange than I am and I get 7296+ down and 448 up, there is room for improvement. Some may disagree, but I think booting your router daily for about 10 days, helps stabilize your connection speed.
It is really worth following the advice given in this thread THREAD
It is also definitely worth investing in one of these SOCKETS

Thanks for that, changing to the Sky router immediately took the speed to 6350 so I may switch to this over the next couple of days.

Guess I could always flog the old router and I even have a spare Sky one but this has a different user name & password so I'd need to flash this with the standard Netgear firmware so that I can enter my login details.

What is it they say about waiting for a bus.

Got home today and had another Router delivery, so that's 3 I've got now!
