I was thinking - it's the 16th today, if I request a MAC from Plusnet now I should get that within 5 days

And once I have that can begin switching to Sky Broadband, but if it all starts looking like sky is gonna be bad I've still got 2 weeks to sign up to Virgin Media's Broadband Offer and maybe cancel Sky?

Think this is a possible solution?

Seems like an idea. Remember you have 8 days grace after signing up with sky, during which you can cancel the order, if you wish. After that you are into a year's contract.
      Asus P6T Deluxe - i7 920 @3.6GHz - 750GB Samsung F1 - 6GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz - XFX GTX260 'Black Edition' - Tagan 1100W PSU - TT 'Big Water' 760i - Antec 1200 - Windows 7 64-bit - Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit

      ADSL Link..............Down .............Up
      Connection Speed..9215 kbps......606 kbps
      Line Attenuation... 20.0 db..........11.9 db
      Noise Margin........ 20.9 db..........22.0db

And there's 30 days grace period with Virgin as well to cancel if not happy.

I think the Sky 8 days is a bit short considering most ISP's say to give it 10 days for your ADSL to adapt to the best speed.

I'd have expect Sky to give at least 14 days or even 30 days like they do with Sky+ to cancel if not happy.

Anyway just request my MAC Code from Plusnet

Re: 10 Unlimited Internet with Sky or Virgin?

Just as a guide, I was not on LLU and transferred from Plusnet to Sky Connect. This was the timetable-
2.3.07 - Requested MAC from Plusnet
3.3.07 - Received MAC from Plusnet
4.3.07 - Ordered and passed MAC to Sky
13.3.07-Was disconnected from Plusnet approx 7.00pm.
      13.3.07-Was reconnected to ADSL- (Sky)approx 7.40pm
15.3.07-Received letter from Sky confirming my order, no connection date given
16.3.07-Received router by parcel post 3.00pm, connected by 3.20pm.
17.3.07-Received letter telling me line would be activated on 13th

It seems if you are going on to a Sky enabled exchange, your router is delivered in 3 or 4 days. If you are going to Connect it will take 10 to 14 days.

Only Sky Broadband Connect has a "training period" (as it's a re-sold ADSL Max service).

The LLU services (Base, Mid, & Max) don't have or need a training period.

Just to note Virgin have been trialing throttling during peak periods. Not sure when or if they plan to take it national, but it has been trialed.
