I think they are very good I get great speeds with usenet and torrents so far, and I am happy I left AOL because they were capping my speeds from 6 to 11pm so I decided to go for Sky BB Max. Because if sky did cap me I wouldnt be so mad because its 15 pounds cheaper than my last isp. I think the support is ok and have had no hassle from switching. We have had sky tv for years so it was just getting the broadband and sky talk. I think people put sky off because you need sky tv but if you add it up its way cheaper than before. I was paying 21 for sky tv, 25 for AOL BB and 15 pounds for unlimited calls with tesco all together came to 61 a month now its only 36 pounds for sky tv,sky broadband and sky talk unlimited. The service is great and just as good has any other services around. I realy cant see how someone can loose by switching to sky (ok maybe if you get problems) but I didnt get any.

Hi thx for the reply, what sort of speeds do you get with the newsgroups does it max out ur connection, pipex allowed newsgroups but limited the speed to 110kbs even when using ssl.

With the "unlimted" package how good are they, will I get a letter if i download too much a month?

Also are they good for pings with online gaming and the 360

Thx guys, i would do some research but only have limited access to the net at the mo and its super slow.

      Thanks

The only traffic shaping / throttling is on the "Connect" service, for people who aren't on an unbundled (LLU) exchange [as "Connect" is just a re-sold BT ADSLMax service].

There's no shaping on Base, Mid, & Max.

The "unlimited" (Max) service has no fixed usage cap, but does have a "Fair Useage Policy".

Sky Broadband "FUP" / Fair Useage Policy

I've seen posts suggesting you'd need to download at least 100GB/month before Sky took action (& I think I even read 250GB somewhere), however I don't think anyone knows for sure...

Personally, my pings are OK for XBox Live. It will obviously vary for each customer though, dependent on your connection etc.

We had a poll here about pings: Pings

Is your BT exchange unbundled? i.e. can Sky offer you Base, Mid, or Max?

I download from newsgroups using NewsbinPro and Giganews European server and I get close to the speed i would expect as a subscriber to the 'mid' package. As far as I can see, as a Sky TV subscriber and as long as there are no unforeseen problems, then signing up to Sky broadband is pretty much a 'no-brainer'.

Re: need new isp, sky any good?

I moved from Eclipse about a week ago now and don't regret it at all. My speeds are slightly improved (I'm a long way from the exchange as you can see from my Sig) and I'm seeing at least as good performance on downloads, newsgroups, etc, etc.

The difference? Well I was orginally paying 30pm to Eclipse for their Business Service and now I'm paying 5pm for the Mid Service at Sky!

      No contest I think!!
