Having Connection problems with SR203 and Netgear D7000

      Hi guys,

      Got the new SR203 recently,

I am abit new to all this i have bought a Netgear D7000 in a hope to piggy backoff the SR203,

Plan is to have the SR203 plugged into the phone line, then run an ethernet cable to d7000 in another room, from the d7000 i then want to run a cable to my PC/MAC and one to my PS4 so i can have the best possible speed.

So last night i plugged it all in ready to go, followed the Netgear Genie setup wizard, and i am having issues with the router not recognizing the internet line.

Kept messing and when i switched the genie so using dynamic ISP and Using the default MAC address i could get the internet light on the d7000 to turn white, so i was reading a good connection.

But then when i tried to switch the devices to LAN it wouldn't work.

Can anybody point out anything blinding obvious i am doing wrong?

      Thanks in advance!

I know nothing about the SR203, but if your aims are as stated why would you need a router? An inexpensive gigabit switch would do the job, without any configuring.

You will only be able to run the netgear as a access point if it offers that mode behind the sky router as the sky box will only work in router mode. A switch would have done the job just as well if you want to keep the sky router as your main device....

      Thanks for the replies,

      1) I got the nighthawk for next to nothing lol,

      2) could I potentially use the nighthawk for better WiFi for my devices too or is that a step too far as far as the delicate sky policies

Re: Having Connection problems with SR203 and Netgear D7000

You could use it as a wifi access point.

In the nighthawk turn off the LAN dhcp server, there's one running in the 203. Set the address on the LAN of the nighthawk to the same net as that of the LAN on the 203, usually 192.168.1.*, just make sure it's not the same address as that of the 203.

Next just connect one of the LAN outputs of the 203 to one of the LAN ports on the nighthawk. You should now have a wifi access point running on the nighthawk, you might want to turn off the wifi on the 203 or change the SSID of the nighthawk to something other than that of the 203 and have both.
