      Sky Ultrafast FTTP

I'm surprised not to see this mentioned here - or perhaps I missed it - but BT are finally releasing FTTP from their "beta" stage to other companies .. and Sky have announced it is coming soon. I'm currently with BT (basically the only choice since I moved in to a new build two years ago, with only the options of BT or Virgin cable), and my current contract with them is due to end in the next couple of months. They've already started sending me letters trying to get me to sign up for an 18 month deal with them, on their 150mb ultrafast package, for the same price as my current "superfast 2" product.

I'm currently paying 47.49 for 75Mb download speed (this includes phone).

BT is offering me the same price (for 18 months) for 150mb download speed, with a guarantee of at least 100, with a 30mb upload speed. For an extra 5 a month i can get the guaranteed wifi thing with at least one "mesh"? type wifi extender - up to a maximum of three.

Sky is effectively announcing the same packages (unsurprisingly, as it will just be BT's offering, really): https://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-t...fast-broadband

Unfortunately although I can see that page, none of the links on it seem to work for me at the moment.

There is a conversation on Skys forums, where someone has posted pricing, which seems to suggest that the comparable package with Sky would be "39.00 PLUS a "discount" of 7.50, making a total of 46.50 per month. Once you add in the activation cost, it would be no cheaper than what I've been offered, but cheaper than if you went with the undiscounted BT price.

When you do a Sky Broadband availability check what speed range does it give and is "Sky Broadband Ultrafast" listed?
      For my address it states:
Ultrafast isn't currently available in your area - please register your details if you'd like us to let you know when it will be available for you.
      After registering it states:
Thank you for registering your interest. We will let you know once Ultrafast speeds are available in your area.

      @Stumpy
In my opinion, Sky has the superior core network behind it, so (were I in your position) I would go with Sky in a heartbeat! We can have G.Fast but at present we get the same result as @seawright above (maybe Sky need to do some further upgrade at the exchange?!)

      Re: Sky Ultrafast FTTP

When i check availability on the link I gave, I got the following message this time:

"Unfortunately we can't process your request online right now ... Please call 0333 759 5165 to speak to one of our advisors"

It says the same thing if I click to register my interest.

However, logged in and looking at the options for broadband, ultrafast is there as an option:

      Sky Ultrafast FTTP-skyultrafast.jpg

But regardless of how I approach it, when I click the "check availability button" it just fails ... either takes me back to the shop front, or to a blank page.

Bearing in mind I've still got a couple of months on my BT contract, and they're offering a free upgrade to the 150Mb package for my current price of 47 .. I think Sky's potential offering of the same package for 39 may well be of interest to me

Seems like it's the standard thing to do for companies atm, putting up pages that don't give all the correct info because they're not ready yet .. Just had to ring British Gas to get details on a tariff they're advertising, to find it's not available yet.

      Re: Sky Ultrafast FTTP

Just for fun, I checked the BT website to see if Ultrafast comes up as an option for my address and if they would let me place an order. The answer is “Yes” and “Yes. Please!”. But much as I would like to try it, I resisted. “I don’t wanna! They can’t make me”...

      Re: Sky Ultrafast FTTP

My exchange is supposed to be ready for this by the end of this year. Depending on pricing, I am very interested.
I am happy to stay with Sky if they have this too but would jump ship to BT if only they do it at my exchange.
