      Speed Increase

Before email to confirm my speed had been increased, my router synced at 39999 down and 9999 up. On speedtest net results were between 22.50 and 36.85 down and 7.90 and 9.55 up. Since upgrade router syncs at 79999 down and 19999 up but download speed on test is lower than before. 2 tests done on different days. Results 9.57 and 11.21 down and 18.50 and 18.54 up. Can anyone advise why my download speed has dropped to these levels on the speed tests yet upload has increased.

Lots of views but no advice. Download speeds are back to speeds before I upgraded to Fibre. Supposed to have increased???. Will have to contact Sky I suppose.

It could be DLM has been put to work on your line to give you the best stable speed. If you post the stats from your router maybe we can see if the speed is likely to improve.

Surely DLM would reduce the sync speed?

      Re: Speed Increase

As your router is syncing at the maximum speed possible something else is slowing the connection down. It could be congestion on the network between the cabinet and the server you are using to perform the speed test. Nothing much you can do about that only try a different server or perform the test at a quieter time for traffic on the internet within the UK. Alternatively it could be something on your local network sharing bandwidth with the speed test. The best way to check for that is to turn off the router's Wi-Fi and disconnect all Ethernet cables except for the one from the computer you are using to perform the speed test. Also make sure that there are no other services running on the computer (torrent downloads are a common problem) that could be competing with the speed test for bandwidth.

      Re: Speed Increase

Are you doing a speed test on a device connected by cable or wifi? If it's wifi that would explain it.

All speed tests have been on wifi connection. Was getting approx 9 before upgrade to fibre then increased to average 30 but since latest increase gone down to 9 on every test. I know I should get more on Ethernet connection but does not make sense that speed on wifi has dropped back to speed I had before upgrade to fibre.

      Re: Speed Increase

If it's OK on a wired connection it rules out the fibre connection and points to a wifi problem. To get high speeds over wifi you really need to use a 5Ghz band, but then you run into distance issues.

Have a look at some powerline extender units, many of them now have built in wifi access points as well.

      Re: Speed Increase

Well it is now 11 days since speed increase by sky was done and strangely today download speed has suddenly increased to 38 from approx 9. Not sure what was going on but happy that speed has increase again and seems to be a little higher than what I was getting before on Fibre.
