      Noise Margin Defaults?

      Hi,
Long story but I'll keep it as short as possible. After changing from BT infinity 1, to sky Max we realised there was a problem with my line, it wouldn't sync over the handback threshold of 57mb, (it was 56). Sky sent OR and that put it to 61 which went to 65, but soon dropped back to 54.
After another OR visit and another change of pair to the cabinet he got it to 70390 / NM 6.6

Over the last couple of days and some automatic reboots (Sky not me) it went to 73858 / NM 5.4 and then today 77513 / NM 4.6

Question: I remember reading something recently where the Exchange equipment is now allowing lower Noise Margins which in turn allows faster sync speed. Is this true or have I dreamt that?

What's the chances of the line staying stable @ 4.6 NM, I've been checking for the last few hours and it hasn't budged more than 0.1 up or down.

      Currently on a Q hub, firmware 2.08.2406.R with a line attenuation 12.4

      Thanks.

if your vdsl cab type is huawei then yes it can support lower snr profiles on the DS. 6 used to be default. now it can go as low as 3 db which in turn will lift your sync rate. I do see a lot resyncs though on one of my family members line due to external factors affecting the sync. The line rate yo-yo's a fair bit but seems to recover quickly. This has nothing to do with sky though. Openreach DLM kit will be doing this.

Us eci users do not at the present have this ability/options..

If anything it'll likely get faster if you are on 4dB; it will go to 3dB adding a few Mb more.

Going from 6dB to 3dB added 11-12Mb on my two FTTC connections.

You were correct, Gorebrush! Found this just now. I'm a little bit wary of such a low NM, but I'm assuming DLM knows what it's doing.

Yes, if your line can do 3dB, it'll do it happily! Nice result, btw!
