Line Attenuation been going up lately...

      Hey guys,

When i first got fibre in december 2017 i was getting around 20mb and lately ive been connected solidely for the last 2 months at 16mb down (i loose around 1mb due to the length of the line so its actually around 15mb) but over the last 4-5 days my router has been resyncing every night around 00:30-2am it comes back on pretty instantly, But ive noticed the Line Attenuation has been going up, its always been solid at 28db but lately its increased to 29 then 29.1 and tonight 29.2db, It syncs at 17mb (the other night 19mb) but it now means im loosing nearly 3mb which brings me below my guranteed minimum speed which is 14mb down.

Im currently leaving the router off for 30 mins to hopefully reset any noise etc on my line and i have another sky q router which im switching the current one out for... Anyone have an idea of why it would be doing this?

Ok now it seems after leaving my router off for a while, then switching for the other sky q router and plugging into the test socket im back to 20mb down

Connection Speed 20180 kbps 2924 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.8 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 2.9 dB 6.6 dB

Only problem is when i do a speed test on speedtest.net wireless and wired im still getting just under 15mb.... Im so confused... Somebody help

It looks like DLM is working on your line in an attempt to stabilize it. There is not much you can do until it finally settles down. If it is still very low call Sky and ask them to get on to Openreach to fix it.

The guaranteed speed Sky give is the sync speed and not actually the download speed. Due to line overheads, the actual download speed using ethernet will be about 10% below the sync speed. Wireless speeds will be lower again.

Your case is similar to mine, where I started off with 21 Mbs and DLM finally set my speed at 17,999 kbps down and 5,360kbps up, with a attenuation of 26.4db.

Thank you for the reply mate

Its odd to me though because whatever my sync speed is i usually get 1mb download speed less than that but lately whatever my sync speed is im getting nearly 3mb less :-/

I dont see why after 2 months of being connected without interruption all of a sudden DLM is playing around with my line.

      Ok new development...

The connection has stayed at 17mb which is what i posted this morning but the download speed on several devices wired and wireless has gone down to 9mb and as little as 6mb.... What the hell is going on?? :-/

if your resyncing too often and your line profile keeps changing it indicates some possible source of interference internal or external , your line can keep high sync but profiles could set delays on data movement which can slow browsing speeds
so best to first check setup test socket first or check telephone for noise
