      Cheap router advice

I am looking for a cheap router to use with sky fibre.
I want to be able to setup a VPN on the router.

I already have a ECI openreach modem.
I think I need a router which has option 61 (which my current ASUS 1200g+ does not!).
If I get one which supports dd-wrt does that mean it will work on sky or is there anything else I need to check on the router before I buy it?

Can anyone suggest a cheap (around 50 or less) router which would do the job?

      Thank you!

Only from Ebay, something like this:

      Asus RT-N56U Dual-band wireless Gigabit router - Boxed 4719543332474 | eBay

Used to use one myself some years ago - used Merlin firmware and it worked well enough for me at the time.

a lot of TP-Link cable routers are cheap, run ddwrt and can be obtained for about 30 quid from your local catalogue shop. They have always been good routers for me in the past.

      Re: Cheap router advice

I also used asus rtn 56u, I used padavan firmware, which was excellent, there is an excellent thread on here about how to set router up with sky fibre I'll post link once I find it

Sky Fibre using Asus RT-N56U as router this is the link from memory i think you can only use padavan firmware with this router, however this may have changed.

My bad... In one of my own messages on that thread I said it was padavan firmware... doh!

Mind you, it's a while ago.

      Re: Cheap router advice

Good stuff. Is it outperforming the sky router?

Mind you, just about anything outperforms a sky router!
