      SR102 & Uptime!

      Ok, brief overview :

Was having wifi issues with my SR102 where by the wifi would crawl to a halt when it hit 800-1000 hours uptime, it would either reboot on its own or i'd have to do it/

I disabled the wifi and stuck in another device. Since then the uptime is coming up to 1800 hours and holding strong.

It may be coincidence but I've seen a reduction in the ping and a rise in SNR by 0.5.

      Re: SR102 & Uptime!

Disabling the wireless would take some of the pressure off the router. It will not use as much power and will run cooler.

Unfortunately there are not many that could get by without a wireless connection. It is surprising how many think the wireless and the internet are the same thing. The official forum is full of complaints about slow internet which turn out to be a slow wireless connection.

About a month of uptime is pretty good, IMO, for any router.

I'm currently at 52 days with my Asus RT-AC66U running the RMerlin firmware. It was around six months prior to that, but I upgraded the firmware to the latest build.

Routers should be something you deploy then forget about, not have to keep resetting to get things back to "normal"

      Re: SR102 & Uptime!

It used to be an issue with early routers, but current ones appear to be quite happy to be left on all the time. 2,000+ hours is not unusual, but at the same time with automated firmware updates such up times can quickly be reset.

The respective DLM software has improved significantly and this actually means you are better off NOT resetting your connection if you can help it. If you are experiencing a slow down in your connection, then there is something else happening IMHO.

So true, my R7000 has been great apart from the time I soft blocked it when uploading a firmware update over wireless (rookie mistake). The only time my router gets rebooted is when I make changes (i.e. changing wireless password, IP reservation and when mucking around with firmware versions).

I get the same speeds over wireless and wired and the ping times are only 1-2ms difference between them.

Wont ever use a ISP supplied router again and am now looking at a ASUS RT-88U, maybe.....
