Yes i suppose it is. I am on eci cab and want to monitor stats. The 612 for me wont work without causing packet loss locked or unlocked plus the sync rate was down. I also read bt are not replacing the open reach modems after march for broken ones so looked for an alternative which could run stats in modem mode. It does work so for me its a suitable replacement over 612. Appreciate this is not ideal for all.
I also paid 55 on line.

      Re: 8800nl modem mode query?

My understanding is that March 2016 is the cease date for supply of a BT Openreach modem on a *new (engineer) install* (where it is required, given that some CPs provide their own all-in-one modem/router which the BT OR engineer will use on a managed install for those CPs), but the cease date for supply of a replacement BT Openreach modem to an existing installation (e.g. provided prior to March 2016 but has subsequently failed) is March 2017. But please do correct me on this if I've got it wrong!

You could be correct. Due to the problems I had possbily being on eci I thought I would try something else and thankfully so far so good. Just another option for anyone interested in stats etc..
