Re: SR101 Firmware Updated to 3.45.1133.R with IPv6 support & updated look

Just had a look at the SamKnows Whitebox stats - no noticeable difference in measured throughput speeds in the past 24 hours.

Some observations from looking at the router syslog via papertrail (to where my router syslog is sent for viewing online from anywhere)

      1. NTP requests sent at bootup now shows response like this:
Jan 1 00:00:37 syslog: Send out NTP request to ntp1.isp.sky.com
Jan 1 00:00:37 syslog: Time has been set from ntp1.isp.sky.com
Jun 12 02:58:02 syslog: Received NTP Sync Reply from ntp1.isp.sky.com

      2. NTP requests sent during normal operation now shows a response like this:
Jun 12 05:11:01 syslog: Send out NTP request to ntp1.isp.sky.com
Jun 12 05:11:01 syslog: Received NTP Sync Reply from ntp1.isp.sky.com
Jun 12 05:11:01 syslog: System time is up to date

      3. Seeing frequent Router Advertisement Daemon (radvd) messages like this on papertrail (but not in the router log):
      received RA from xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
(where xxxx are hex characters representing a couple of presumably internal IPv6 addresses on the LAN here
      - further investigation to be done)

      4. Seeing less frequent Router Advertisement Daemon (radvd) messages like this on papertrail (but not in the router log):
      received RS from xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
(where xxxx are hex characters representing several presumably external IPv6 addresses - further investigation to be done)

Other things noticed while logged into the router:

      - DHCPv6 is ON in LAN Port settings area.
      - Values shown for IPv6 ULA & IPv6 ULA Prefix & IPv6 Link Local Address in LAN Port settings area.
      - IPv6 Loopback Address is blank in Modem section.
      - Gateway IPv6 Address, IPv6 Domain Name Server, IPv6 Global Address and IPv6 Delegated Prefix are all blank in the Broadband Port settings area.
      - IPv6 Link Local Address also shown in Broadband Port settings area.
      - Quite a few devices that previously showed the correct Device Name are now shown as UNKNOWN.
      - No sign of a bridging mode in the wireless settings.

Two observations since SR101 firmware updated to 3.45.1133.R about a month ago:

      1. Kernel issues message "flwStatsAddNode: Can not create query. MAX=128" from time to time.
      2. The Sky+HD light no longer flashes when the Sky+ box is downloading Catch Up On Demand content over the broadband connection.

Otherwise all seems to be behaving well.

There are a few people around having problems connecting to older hardware over wifi since the update.
Not only with 3.45.1133.R for the SR101 but also 2.88.1086R for the SR102.

Noted but our Sky+HD is connected via ethernet not via Wi-Fi.

I have today received some information from within Sky re the changed behaviour of the Sky+HD light.

The change in the Sky+HD light behaviour is intentional and not a fault. The change, so the Sky+HD light will no longer flash, was introduced in the recent Sky Hub firmware update that introduced IPv6 support.

Light on: one or more Sky+HD boxes are connected.
Light off: no boxes are connected.

      So now we know!

If that's not a cue for somebody with an SR101 or SR102 running the new firmware that supports IPv6 to pop up and say the Sky+HD light still flashes when a download is in progress, then I don't know what is!

Re: SR101 Firmware Updated to 3.45.1133.R with IPv6 support & updated look

I have been running the new firmware for a while now and noticed the light had stopped blinking.

I think the IPv6 details in the Broadband Port will populate when your line is enabled for IPv6. Everything is complete in mine except the DNS servers. I don't think Sky have set them up yet.

Is your log showing a lot of Time requests? Mine is, that may be down to IPv6 too. This is just a small section of my log -

Sky don't seem interested, but when all the routers come on line for IPv6 the Time server is going to be overloaded.

Re: SR101 Firmware Updated to 3.45.1133.R with IPv6 support & updated look

Hi TomD, My guess is that they've changed that behaviour because people probably found it "confusing" - a blinking light could be mistaken as a warning that something is wrong. And the behaviour only applied when the Sky+HD box(es) is/are connected to a Sky router. I always thought the idea was a bit pointless really!

The regular NTP time request has been a "feature" of Sky Fibre ever since I got it back in April 2012. At least the latest firmware now also writes the NTP Sync reply and a "System time is up to date" message to the log!

I also had a number of these yesterday too on my sr102, which has the 2.88.1086.R firmware.

I also get the DDNS update notification in the log. I didn't notice it till you pointed it out.

haven't got the SR102 plugged in but I have noticed that my MacBook's wireless is reporting an IPv6 address and the Airport Extreme has a WAN IPv6 address.
