It is a few years since Virgin media responded to user requests with a firmware upgrade to their hubs that included a modem only mode which eliminated problems with double NAT that was causing problems for users who wanted to use their own cable router.

If Sky are not planning to upgrade their router in the near future then they should consider following Virgin's example thereby allowing power users the flexibility to choose their own LAN hardware, without contravening Sky's T&Cs, whilst also providing a general purpose router for home users with more modest requirements.
