      Weekend Speeds

      Hi,

Is anyone else noticing a distinct drop in download speeds over the weekends. ?
I have noticed for the last 3 weeks that during the week I can download from my Newsgroup Provider at around 3.5 MB/s, yet come the weekend I'm lucky to get just over 2 MB/s. I have tried 2 different Newsgroup Providers to eliminate that problem and they both come back the same. So something somewhere is affecting my speeds at weekend only.
The image below shows what I am experiencing at weekends over the last 3 weeks when downloading.
      Any suggestions.

      Re: Weekend Speeds

There can be a huge range of reasons which can affect your speed through to a specific news group.

I recall looking into one instance some time back and it appeared to be affecting a small number of people connected on one regional area.

One suggestion would be to check the same newsgroups through a VPN and also to run a 'tracert' to see where the issue might be stemming from.

      Hi,
Just to highlight the difference, here is the same file from the same News Provider but on a Monday morning. Like I said it is only ever at weekends that I seem to have problems with download speeds.

      Re: Weekend Speeds

It is possible your exchange, or its pipe to the backbone is overloaded at the weekends. This is something that has become apparent in the past few years, with the introduction of OnDemand and now high speed fibre, such as your own. Sky are continually upgrading exchanges to increase the throughput, yours may be on the list for upgrading. Check here Broadband and Talk service updates | Sky Customer Support to see if anything is reported for your exchange.
