      Fibre optics and my cabinet...

      So, first off, hi!

I'm wanting to get fibre optics, because my current broadband package feels like living in the stone age.

I receive letters and emails from Sky all the time about how fibre is now available in my area. My two friends down the road (around a five minute walk, less than a quarter of a mile) have fibre, one on EE, the other with BT. But anyway- when I rang up Sky and other fibre providers, they say it's not available.

So I looked online on websites that say it definitely is available in my area. But they also say the cabinet is marked as a high demand one. Which really sucks. Because it seems I'm doomed to be stuck with this ridiculously slow broadband for the foreseeable future.

My question is: Is there any possible way for me to see when more spots would be available on the cabinet? What would be the best possible way for me to find out the estimated time? Could anybody provide a rough estimate? For those that are interested, my postcode is S60 5UB.

      Any help is appreciated.

Hi Casperf1 and welcome to the forum.
Dates have a habit of moving but according to BT's Broadband availability checker cabinet {SLRH}{P44} is showing as 12 Nov 2014.

Others have EE and BT would these two supply you, have you asked them?

Awesome! Very helpful link! So if all goes well, I should be able to ring up on that date and order fibre optics?

I tried BT (who ALWAYS send me letters) but the man on the phone was pretty useless and couldn't give me a date or any reason as to why I was getting letters, or when I could get fibre, then kept trying to sell me basic broadband. Didn't try EE yet, though I definitely will do.

Hmm... I did respond to this earlier, but it doesn't seem to have come through.

Anywho- thanks a ton for that link. If everything works out, does that mean I can ring up on the 12th of November and buy it?

If the cabinet is full, then it's full regardless of the provider. All ISPs use Openreach's cabinets and can only provision lines if there is enough capacity in the cabinet

Well. I just checked using this website: Where and when - Superfast Fibre Broadband

And apparently, it says that my cabinet is "AO" (Accepting Orders) so I'm going to ring them up tomorrow and hopefully, everything should go good!

You could pace the distance which is probably better than measuring it on a map as cables rarely take the most direct route. Check which cabinet you are connected to first as it may not be the nearest.

As I said before dates have a habit of changing and checking again today it is showing as unavailable without a forecast date.
I would check again around the twelfth or earlier if you notice any Openreach work being carried out at your cabinet.
Hopefully the cabinet still has space to install extra equipment.
