Static or dynamic IP address ?

Can anyone confirm if you get a static or dynamic IP address when you switch fibre ?
The reason I ask is that it causes a problem with a forum I'm on.
When my IP changes I get blocked and have to request to be unblocked.

Your IP address is dynamic. Although I've noticed it doesn't change as much for me compared with ADSL.

There's a new product currently being rolled out called "Sky Fibre Pro" which has a static IP*. Not available for every exchange yet and it costs more than standard fibre.

      * Fixed IP is probably more accurate as it is essentially assigned by Sky through DHCP at a network level

Re: Static or dynamic IP address ?

Yep - Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro will offer a Static IP Address.

Currently Sky are in the process of updating their kit across the country. Once the update has been completed on your exchange, then it will be possible.

Sky Broadband Unlimited Pro will also offer static IP Addresses when it is fully launched.

For the moment SBUP is only available to those who have migrated from Be. It will be launched soon.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Worth pointing out what Saturday said though - it's not actually a static IP address in the true sense, it is a 'reserved' address issued by DHCP. For most people, this wont be an issue, as you will get an IP that doesn't change. Others, however, might be scuppered by the fact that the address still show up in the RIPE database as a normal variable dhcp range (although Sky are negotiating to get this changed), and you can't set up rDns.
