Setup/Config Asus RT- AC68U Help and advise

      hello every body.

im new here to the forum and to networking.

The reason why i have created this thread his to find out if i could use the Asus RT-AC68U router with sky unlimited fibre and how i would go about achieving this, i could not find any information about this here.

i have the sr102 router on the way to me, but i don't think i would be able to use it because you cant not put in modem only (thats what i have heard unless some know how to) . there fore i would be looking to purchase another modem could you suggest one which will work.

i think the aus rt-ac68u is is just a router without the modem am i correct.

i do know i would need to extract username and password from the sr102 hub which i know how to do and use firmware on the asus router.

      current setup

      Sky unlimted
      sky D-Link 2640S
      2 laptops
      1 tablet
      2 desktop
      1 Samsung note 3

the 2nd desktop is in the process of begin build, the other desktop on the other hand has had upgrade, wireless adopter, (Asus pci-AC68 dual band wireless AC1900.

the reason why i up graded it was because the old wireless adopter was for b/g + the wire was broken.

the reason why i have opt to do something about the network is that since the Samsung phone has been in the house connected to the home network all other device have really slowed down, i haven't changed the chl because its on auto, plus the router needed an upgrade.

so i have decided to upgrade my package to sky unlimited fibre and i wanted to use my own router.

also i read about the face plate, currently i have BT openreach master socket which has the ibackplate. im going research a bit more before i purchase the vdsl face plate , every bit helps i guess.

i look forward to your reply

Ok I'm jealous wish I could afford one. As I don't have one I can't say for definite. However there is Merlin firmware and DD-WRT firmwares available for this router and guides to slightly older/lower spec models on this forum for using a usb stick and the factory firmware so I would say yes it is possible. If however you feel that extracting your password and installing firmware is difficult just follow the guide on this forum for using it plugged into the sky router.

      Re: Asus RT- AC68U

I have bought on of these, and bought a BT Openreach modem off ebay. Extracted the username, modded the firmware in the ASUS (Merlin) added the info.....and hey presto all working. Although currently Broadband Speed Checker - THE UK's No.1 Broadband Speed Test is only reporting about 18Meg download?? It should be able to hit 40Meg. So I might need a bit of investigation, in case there's some adjustments needed?

The Latter model in question can be soft hacked whilst the other can not.
