He's 18 today so wont believe a word of any fibs I tell him.

I'm a bit concerned that the router only blocks http and does not block an existing session.

Methinks his own router will be forthcoming, powered down at set times instead.

I wonder if he has worked out how to tether his mobile to the computer?

It is possible to tether a phone via a USB cable. Some ISPs do prevent phones from being tethered, but I believe that there are ways around this.

Ultimately though whilst he lives under your roof there are rights you both have, but he needs to understand that he needs to respect the other people who live in the house, rules or no rules.

A part of me is thinking about how else to deal with this. At the moment you are looking to jst block the Internet access and fighting tooth and nail to do this, but he is still able to get on to it. Another side of me is thinking why does he stay up so late each night and not doing things during the day?

I appreciate that jobs can be hard to find, but there are jobs out there. Even if it were something such as working as a labourer on the farm, ir would be better than staying at home all day.

He's studying at college to we try to get him to come off at 11:30.

Heck knows what he's going to be like when he's not in education.

But yes I can see me putting him on his own network and using a timer to power the router lol.
      Cheers.

A lot of college student will stay up late, irrespective of the course work.

I used to work as late as 3am when I was at college in order to finish some of the coursework. After that time I was making too many mistakes to make it worth continuing, so I went to sleep.

I did have to refrain from printing off the assignments though. The dot-matrix printer I had wasn't particularly quiet .
