      Nearly unusable evening speeds

We've had Sky broadband for a while and moved up to Fibre about a month ago and all has been fine until recently. The reported router speed is around 32Mb and its been working fine, stable and quick.

Until the last the week or so, seems to be fine during the day and early morning but sometime around 21:00 in the evening the speed drops to being nearly unusable. Ping times to the google dns server or the sky dns show around 1000 to 3000 ms times and web pages frequently drop out. Anything like iplayer or youtube are of course unusable.

So far I've had everything disconnected except a laptop or an ipad and get the same results so I don't think its local. Tried restarting everything but it seems to be network congestion or similar. I'll be calling Sky in the morning but just wondering if anybody else has experienced anything similar? I can understand the network being busier in the evenings but this is worse than dialup...

Just checked the router after restarting that and the modem and its showing 27400 downstream and 7301 up. Adsl speedtest averages to about 4mb but the response when using it feels much worse.

      Cheers

Hey, me too. I've had Sky Fibre for ages and the last few evenings have been ridiculous. Download speed is nearly 2400 baud modem speed!

      I'm in BR2.

Is the original poster in Bromley area?

What a suprise I just called them and they said the fibre team are closed... And the normal bb team can't deal with it... They mention that there are no known faults on the line there end

Excellent - so it's probably the Bromley exchange then. So how to fix this? I'm going to call the Sky Fibre team in the morning.

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

Tried calling but the fibre team close at 21:00 so will be calling in the morning. Good to hear its not just me I suppose but I really hope its not going to be a long term problem, nearly impossible to do any remote work in the evening.
