Post My FTTC Cabinet / Modem

      Hello All

Please could someone help identify which manufacturer my FTTC cabinet is?

I'm pretty sure it's the ECI one, but I have seen on various sites that Huawei make small cabs too!

I'm only asking because the Engineer from Kelly Communications (crap company but that's another story) gave me a Huawei FTTC modem.

I have got hold of a second hand ECI FTTC Modem but will this work any better than the Huawei one?

Hope that all makes sense and look forward to your replies

      Craig

Can't help identify the DSLAM cabinet but surely BTO could have also replaced the associated telephone cabinet,

      instead of just the doors.

I agree, it is rather tatty. The one down the road 600 metres away has had it's door replaced as well. Anyway I have just plugged in the ECI modem and the sync speed has gone from 59.8mb to 63mb downstream and 13mb upstream to 18mb upstream.

      Bonus!!

      Its an eci dslam

within a few days you should be put on faspath if your line lengh isnt really long
and it should sync faster and or give lower fec/hec/crc errors

have you got the I or r revision eci modem

the r revision has a newer binary blob and sync's slightly faster than the I revision
dont power the modem down to check just lift it slightly to see the sticker

Mine is the 'R' Revision. My line length is approx 450-500 metres from the cab, so quite happy with the speeds.

aslong as you dont power the open reach modem down you may see a sync rise in a few days along with interleaving being taken off

Re: My FTTC Cabinet / Modem

Well I am now back on the 40/10 service as my speed dropped considerably over the past few days at where it started at 63/18 and dropped to 48/8. Obviously my line couldn't take the strain of 80/20. Since being back on the 40/10 I get the full sync (39999/9999) and the connection is much more stable.

Did take a few heated discussions with the sky fibre team, but I managed to convince them that I would rather pay for something I know I will get.

Re: My FTTC Cabinet / Modem

Sorry to hear that your line won't support the speed you desire but compared to ADSL even 40/10 should go like sand off a shovel (I'd never win Catchphrase). Perhaps you'd like to drop the Pro off of your profile.
