      Positive Fibre Experience

Hi guys, I've been 'lurking' in the Fibre forum for a while, waiting patiently for my exchange and cabinet to be enabled so I could get on the Fibre bandwagon. After reading some of the horror stories on this forum and others, I was worried about botched orders, no-show engineers, half speed throughput etc, but I'm pleased to say the whole process was utterly painless and I thought it was worthwhile sharing my experience.

I placed the order 2 weeks ago, received the SR101 last week, and took the day off work today for the install. The engineer (BT, not a contractor) turned up at 8AM on the dot, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole install was done within 30 minutes.

Interestingly one thing he did say was that he and his colleagues are currently being assigned 5 jobs a day, but he finds it impossible to get to them all if he encounters any difficult/lengthy installations throughout the day, and that this is a common problem across the area (Norfolk). In light of this it would seem that taking the 8am-1pm slot is a good idea where possible.

Once I changed the SSID and password to that of my previous router I was able to transfer all my previous port forwarding settings, reserved IP addresses etc. over to the SR101 relatively easily, which saved me a lot of hassle.

The sync speed is reporting at 80,000/20,000, I'll be keeping an eye on this and speedtest results (see below for current figures) moving forward but as of this evening I'm very happy with the whole process. I know a lot of people are not so lucky but it at least goes to show that Sky and BT can get it right!

A good news story - I think there's generally a tendency to post ONLY when they DON'T get it right!

yup, our experience with fibre pro over the last year or so has been nothing but a joy. infact the biggest let down has been having to go work and use the what is now crappy 10Mbit leased line.
