Reduced Download/Upload Speeds + Increased Ping

      Hello All,

I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on this annoying problem.

I've had Sky Fibre installed since late March this year (40mb package)

Since installation up until around 4 weeks ago its been superb. Download speed has been around 38mb (40mb sync speed at router), upload around 7-8mb.

My ping readings were always around 14-15ms. Happy days compared to the old adsl connection.

Anyhow, around 4 weeks ago I noticed my download speed had dropped slightly. I logged onto the router to see that my sync speed had dropped to 35mb.

Slightly concerned I rang the fibre team who checked my connection and said that it had dropped recently due to a power cut and to leave things for a few days and the profile would go back to 40mb,

I checked it again a few days later (rebooted the router) and all was fine.

      Then came yesterday.

I started downloading a file and noticed the D/L speed was around 20mb. Snail pace compared to what I've had for the last six months.

I checked the router and sure enough it was syncing at 30MB.

I contacted Sky and asked them to look at my broadband set up as before. After being on hold for a while I was told that there were no errors on the line and as the speed I was getting was around the estimate I got when I signed up (33.3mb) they wouldn't consider a fault to be present. They asked me to do a speed test, which they directed me to and it came back at 30.07. They asked that I check it again in a few days to see if it reverts back upto the 40mb profile.

So, what I was wondering, has anyone else experienced this kind of speed loss since installation?

I've heard of peoples speeds dropping due to more people becoming connected, but I seem to have lost loads since the initial take up.

On the other hand maybe I've been spoilt for the last six/seven months and now its back to reality.

      Any comments appreciated.

      Cheers

Which FTTC modem do you have is the Huawei or the ECI?

Do you know if you have a Huawei or ECI cabinet?

Sometimes if a Huawei modem is used with an ECI cabinet there are random error bursts that causes the DLM to switch on interleaving and may also reduce speeds. Presume it's some kind of interoperability issue.

I have noticed my download a has gradually gone down from 38 in June to 27 today.
I won't complain yet as it's much better than my old 1 Meg.

On the up side, Huawei modems can sync faster on ECI kit than the ECI modem. In my case it was 5Mbps faster.

What was your estimated connection speed when you ordered SFU?

If you have dropped below that, then I would suggest that you have every right to call Sky and ask someone to look into it for you.

      Hi

I've got an ECI modem but no sure whats at the cabinet. How would I check that?

I'm currently syncing at 30000kbps down and 7896 up. So i've lost 10000kbps.

Should I hack the router so I can get other stats?

      Thanks for all the replies

Re: Reduced Download/Upload Speeds + Increased Ping

My connection has dropped alot as well since install, first few days my router synced 39999/2000, then they fixed the 2mb upload and i synced 39999/8000, few days later synce dropped to 38000/8000, then week later 32000/8000.
for last week its been stuck at 22400/7600.

upload seems to have stayed about the same since first few days on being connected, but download has dropped hell of a lot, 38 down to 22 is a fair big drop if you ask me, as the bt guy said i should get full speed( so he said)

Re: Reduced Download/Upload Speeds + Increased Ping

Mine dropped last week, only by abit.
Was syncing at 39999/9000 and it went to 39300/8000. I was quoted 35/6 so I expected it was part of the course.
I ended up unplugging the rj11 cable from the master socket for an hour and plugging it back in.
My speed is now syncing at the original speed I had before.

      Sent from my ST18i
      With sky since 1997.
