Thanks - that ties up then. 18mb down estimate, and less than 1200 metres from the cabinet. So it definitely shouldn't be 8-9 then!

Well, Sky said I can cancel as it is less than 15.

I was told by Sky CS that they do work on the 15mb download principle as a starting point to investigate.

When fibre was first introduced 15 Mb was touted as the minimum acceptable speed. I don't know if this is still the case, it is not really fair if it is. There are many who can only get 1-2 Mb on ADSL who would jump at the chance of getting 10-15 if it were available. So far it has only widened the gap between the haves and have nots.

Could try asking Sky for the results of the Pair Quality Test the engineer should have run on the line when he was visiting... Bet they don't have it and tbh even if they did it's unlikely they'll disclose it but it might at least prompt them into looking into Why they don't have it.

Also try getting them to send another engineer and to escalate the case with Openreach complain to them that the first engineer didn't do anything to actually check the line and therefore you do not believe they have tried to resolve your fault properly.

Whist I hate the ADR proccess as it's often extremely unfair to the ISP (See www.me.uk RevK's rants: ADR for an example) if Sky are not willing to chase openreach into doing their job then it is an option available to you.

When it was first installed and measured at 12400 down did the engineer ask you to confirm that you wanted to go ahead with the install?

I was not here when it was installed, I did question with those who were in the house at the time if they said anything about speed and the answer was no.

Could I also ask - the 80/20 product, you'd only see a benefit from that if you were already connecting at the full 40/10, right?

Another line the hapless engineer came out with was that Sky could give us the 80/20 package which would double the speed.

The 40/10 product is capped at the speed.

If your line could support anything faster, then you would get the max 40/10.

Since you are well short of getting 40/10, the 80/20 product is unavailable to you.

When they installed mine and did the speed check the engineer told me it was a legal requirement to inform me that the download speed would be less than 15000 and that I needed to confirm with him and Sky that I still wanted to go ahead. I wasn't too worried about the down speed (I had expected the 13000) but the upload was only 0.7 rather than the promised 2.0 so the install was aborted.

Get in touch with Sky again, I read somewhere on their website (I haven't time to search for it right now) that if the fibre speed is way below the expected speed you have a right to cancel.

Re: God awful connection speeds - ideas?

Yes, they have no trouble with me cancelling, but nothing that I can see has been done to try and at least diagnose a dodgy line. They've just gone, oh it is currently telling me you're getting 10 down. Yes no s-word, the router can tell you that.

And regarding above - so that is another lie he told then. I did think you'd need to be getting 40/10 to have benefit from the 80/20 package. I wish I knew the name of this pathetic engineer. Hopefully the written complaint to Openreach will result in action being taken against him.
