      Give MAC, fibre to go!

      Hello from an old lurker.
My cabinet (YO8 5UY) has been recently activated for fibre, finally!, stuck on 2Mb at the moment.
Speaking on Live Chat to SKY (on 2 separate occasions), one said I needed a MAC (which I had already requested), but
the other said I didnt. Who is correct. The confusion seemed to be due to me having BT line rental only and BB with ADSL24.
The first agent said since my line rental was with BT I would need a MAC. The second agent informed me, that since I only had
line rental with BT and BB with another supplier a MAC would not be needed.
If I dont need a MAC I will order it ASAP rather than wait.

      Yours, Confused
      HiPING

You would have to change your line rental over to Sky, so I don't think a MAC is necessary but others could confirm.

You may as well ask ADSL24 for a MAC anyway incase you do need it?

With Sky Fibre you will go on an LLU connection which does not use a MAC. Get a cast iron guarantee that you are able to get Sky Fibre before committing. Some have been left in the lurch getting their phone rental transferred then finding they could not get Fibre. Any Sales team will tell you anything to get the sale.

Follow NR's advice and get a MAC anyway, it costs nothing and will do no harm if it is not used.

Crikey, thank you both for the very quick replies. Will wait for my MAC just in case.

BT Infinity 2 FTTC (19/09/2012) - Sync: 52 Mbps / 9 Mbps - (Would consider Sky if static IP available).

Well I hope I haven't jumped the gun. The rep at SKY said, "you don't need a MAC when transferring everything over to us". He also confirmed this with is sup.
So I bit the bullet and ordered. My phone line goes over by tomorrow evening, (bit strange), router midweek and I have a BT visit on the morning of the 1st Oct.
I was offered the 21st Sep, but being the usual unlucky type, I'm away for a week starting on the 21st. Wife not willing to stay in on that day so thats the earliest I can get it; if all goes well.
      Thanks everyone for your replies.
