40mb or 80mb fibre?
My exchange has just had fibre enabled and according to sky I can get a 40mb fibre service.
I thought we were upto 80mb fibre speeds now?
Is it a matter of waiting till my exchange gets upgraded from 40mb to 80mb?
Also, as I registered an interest when sky first announced they would be having fibre access, should I have to pay the £50 connection charge?

Try getting an estimate from the BT Wholesale Checker..

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Sky's 80/20 service is up and running, but for some reason, it's not showing on the sky speed checker when ordering.
Like gorebrush said, check on the BT site and see what type of speeds your looking at.
If you like the quoted speeds, give Sky a ring, and they will put your Pro order through.
I have heard of people who pre registered an interest in fibre to have the install fee for free, but I'm not sure if that's the case now.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Just checked and the 80mb service is available at my exchange.
What's the best number to phone sky on for this?
And...... do I get a say in the install date or do they decide this without any input from me?
I am a shift worker and it is not always easy to get time off work at fairly short notice.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Hmmm, the sky upgrade area is no longer showing fibre as available for me.
It certainly did earlier this morning when I first posted in this thread.
Bt is still showing it is now available and at the 80mb service.
Can't sky make their minds up?

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
The sky checker is a bit hit and miss. Many people, including myself had problems.
I would ring the main sky number and go for upgrades.
It was about a 2 week wait for install, but there was options to pick a suitable date.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Just ordered pro.
Had to pay the £50 connection charge even though I did register an interest when sky first announced the fibre trials, but it will be credited to my account, so in effect there will be no charge.
Install date of September 7th.
Advised of a connection speed of 64.1 but expect the full amount as I am so close to the exchange.
I assume it is best to use sky's router during the 10 day dlm period?
I intend using my Billion 7800N.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Being close to the exchange has nothing to do with it, unless your line is EO, then you would not get FTTC at all. The closeness of the street fibre cabinet is the important point.Advised of a connection speed of 64.1 but expect the full amount as I am so close to the exchange.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
The fibre cabinet is even closer to me than the exchange and I am connected to a cabinet.

Re: 40mb or 80mb fibre?
Good, it'll have absolutely nothing to do with how far the exchange is - it's all down to length to the cabinet

With a 64mb estimate, you should be kicking 80 with no fuss.
My estimate was 52 and I get 63-65.Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro -- SYNC 65185/20000
