I'd like to think that wouldn't upset DLM as ideally the DLM should be able to tell the difference between someone powering off the modem and the line being unstable seeing as with the modem disconnected there won't be anything on the line trying to sync.

I don't know... you wait all this time to be able order Sky Fibre, then when you finally get it you switch it all off.

Seriously though, so long as you do not make a habit of power cycling the BTO Modem, DLM should be happy. It should recover after a few days.

I'd actually expect a straight power-cycle, to be far more disruptive to DLM than turning it off for an extended period. Seeing as if the DLM algorithm was programmed sensibly it should take into account some people turn off the power to their modems as there are people who don't like leaving electrical items on overnight or when they are aware.

Re: I wonder if i'll upset DLM

It is better to leave the Modem on 24/7. DLM continuously works in the background and routers and Modems actually last longer when left on 24/7. Their components tend to fail sooner if you turn them off every night.

Repeatedly power-cycling would be likely to cause DLM to think that there is a line fault. This would result in your speed being reduced for a period. It should pick up again but I am not sure how long it would take to improve.

I usually leave it on but I unplugged it and moved it out the way as I don't think it would appreciate being filled with the dust from the channel being cut into the wall.

Getting Cat5e installed which should help with the throughput a lot ;-)
Sadly upstairs will still be wireless/powerline for now until we can get the cabling done there as well.

I don't think powering it off an leaving it would kick in DLM do you'll be ok. If it does upset it DLM will sort itself after a day or too.

I had to turn my power off in my computer room and when I switched back on my speed has been going down. See 2 steps in the pic. Have I messed up the DLM?

What time did you power off and on your modem?
Reason I ask is, dlm isn't usually that strict but I have had times when I rebooted my modem on an evening and lost some speed, but a quick reboot early morning, sorted it out.

How long was it all off for? I've had a couple of short power cuts of a few minutes or so since getting SFU about 3 months ago without any detrimental effect on speeds or throughput.

I had to turn the power off at 6:30pm for about 2 minutes.
