It is different to mine. Seems a strange way to do it.
Mine has just a little junction box where my master socket used to be.
Then a 2.5m cat5e extention cord,
That's connected to my new fibre master socket.
Then a Rj11 cable connected to my modem.
If the new Rj11 cable doesn't do anything. I would definitely look into improving that setup.

Quick update. Brother in law got the 40/10 upgrade, and it looks like it's finally synced at 25223/7576 ( 9mbps more than before the RJ11 cable swap). A little short of what he was quoted but a good result non the less. He's getting regular speedtest results of between 20/22 down, so he's happy with the final outcome.
