Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
Installation due 26 June, Sky router arriving today, (received text from royal mail which is a new one on me.)
letter from Sky says do not set up router until BT man has fitted modem, but I am sure I have seen posts from members who have.
I am sure if I have to setup router after modem is fitted I will not get the chance of doing a speed check while BTO man is here.

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
The new router will connect on both ADSL and FTTC connections. Since you already have Sky Broadband it should be fine to connect it.
The Sagem 2504N can only be configured when connected to the Internet.

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
Does the sky router supplied for fibre have different username / password details to a sky router supplied for ADSL?
Just curious.

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
I put mine in before BTO had installed the modem & it didn't work. There may be some setting that needs to be changed but standard out of the box didn't work at all for me.
I left it in for about 30 mins then just went back to the old one until BTO had installed the modem.

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
Yes, you can do this, and it works.
I've done it.
You need to change one setting in the Routers web interface - under Advanced, I believe there is a setting for Auto/PPPoA or WANoE
You need PPPoA for ADSL and WANoE for Fibre.
Auto will work but it'll take a few minutes for the router to try both by itself.Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro -- SYNC 65185/20000

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
At least the web interface for the "fibre" router is a lot faster than the ADSL one is. It didn't take too long set set up all my firewall services and rules once it was up and running.

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
So if I am an existing Sky ADSL customer, when I get fibre, my current username / password will still be the same with fibre?

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
Yes because Sky use MER as well as user/pass

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
So if I already know my current ADSL logon details, I can just use them in my own router (Billion) when I get fibre?
Or do I have to extract the Mer details (whatever that is) from the modem?

Re: Is it OK to setup new router before BTO modem is fitted
From reading elsewhere, some routers can take as long as 50 minutes before they connect on SFU/SFUP, perhaps a little longer.
I would suggest that you extract the details from the Sky router, try your Sky router initially, then swap to the Billion once the connection has been confirmed on your Fibre connection.
