Engineer comes tomorrow, what to expect?

Currently i got Broadband Unlimited with an speed of:

      Modem
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 11717 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 1111 kbps

      So im wondering some things.

What will happend with my ADSL? Will it work until the technician arrives?
The time frame is from 1pm to 6pm... and to be honest i dont know if i will be able to stay at home all this time. At what time they used to arrive?

I already got a Sagem 2504n router, but they sent me another one.... I need it? The engineer will collect the old one? I need to send it?

For better speeds, i have my router connected to the test socket, and then the rest of the extensions at my line are "disabled". With the new install, what will happend?

I was on gaming profile for the ADSL, i will maintain this?

Once i have Fibre installed, how to upgrade to Fibre Pro?

I think thats all, i will be happy to any comment, advice you can make.

      Thanks.

Keep it for a while just in case fibre fails and you are forced back to ADSL. All being well, flog it on eBay, its yours to dispose of as you wish.

The engineer will fit a new VSDL faceplate.

I was on gaming profile for the ADSL, i will maintain this?
I don't think there is a gaming profile as such, the connection is so much better you don't need one. Most report pings in single figures or teens at most.
Once i have Fibre installed, how to upgrade to Fibre Pro?
Just phone up and tell them you want to upgrade.

Re: Engineer comes tomorrow, what to expect?

As a little tip, it might be worth you connecting up your new Sagem 2504N and configuring any port forwarding etc. now.

If you want to use the old one to piggyback to the new router, members have found that the Sagem 2504N appears to need an Internet connection in order to keep any changes applied. With this in mind, one you have correctly configured the new router (it will work on both an ADSL and Fibre connection), you could configure the older one.

Re: Engineer comes tomorrow, what to expect?

Well, i dont have any port forwarding setup, and dont see the purpose to have 2 routers, so i think i will just use the new one.

But its a good idea i think to make the Wireless config right now. I use a custom SSID, password, channel....

Thanks a lot for the tip

Re: Engineer comes tomorrow, what to expect?

This is bad. Assuming that you are posting from home then I can see that you haven't even had your BB moved across to Sky.

Unfortunately we are reliant on the BTO Engineers completing the work for installing the FTTC connection and BTO Modem. Whilst there are some excellent BTO Engineers around, there are also many who shouldn't be doing the job.

The only sensible thing that you can currently do is to speak nicely with Sky and get them to get BTO to install your SFU connection asap. I would also suggest that you lodge a complaint with Ofcom once you are sure where the fault stems from.

Re: Engineer comes tomorrow, what to expect?

Im writing from work right now, but at home i still have my Sky Broadband Unlimited working, otherwise i will be soooo mad and not just worried and a bit mad hehehe.

I called Sky on thursday 14th about the engineer not coming, and they said that i will get a new appointment date yesterday. This either never happend, so i will call again tomorrow (i cant today).
Im starting to feel that someone is just cheating at me. If there is a problem, damn, let me know, but dont lie with false appointments or promises of a call that never happen.

Im from Spain, and this kind of things was not uncommon some years ago with "Telefonica" (the major company in Spain, similar to BT here). But with more competitors on the market and the customers being more demanding this kind of situations rather happens nowadays.

Just hope i can get it installed assap.

      Thanks.

Perhaps if you are unable to telephone, you may wish to submit an on-line query. They can respond via emails.

It will work until the BTO Eng gives you a call to inform you he at the echange/cabinet doing the work required there and this work will remove your ability to use ADSL unless the reservse if if you choose to go back to adsl)

The time frame is from 1pm to 6pm... and to be honest i dont know if i will be able to stay at home all this time. At what time they used to arrive?
They can come anytime between 1pm and 6pm, if you are not in you will be charged for a failed instalation if you lucky they may over look it

I already got a Sagem 2504n router, but they sent me another one.... I need it? The engineer will collect the old one? I need to send it?
I would keep incase your frist one goes faulty and you need anotherone to prove that it faulty

For better speeds, i have my router connected to the test socket, and then the rest of the extensions at my line are "disabled". With the new install, what will happend?
you won't neeed to do this fibre is fitlered there only one port you can connect to modem to on the master socket

I was on gaming profile for the ADSL, i will maintain this?
no gaming profile yet on fibre, sky says they may introduce one if there a demand and it would be usefull.... not sure I beleive this.

Once i have Fibre installed, how to upgrade to Fibre Pro?
just give them a call and depending on who you get should be an easy process
