Sky Anytime+ and connecting to the BTO modem with port 1
Hi all,
Just thought I offer this tip to anyone else who might be using Anytime+ with their Sky Fibre connection and experiencing difficulties ... or maybe it was just me.
Up until 10 minutes ago my internal LAN setup was:
master socket -> BT modem -> cat 6e cable -> 200mb homeplugs -> cat 6e cable -> sky router (port 1) > cat 6e cable -> 1gb switch > cat 6e cable -> PC
This also meant my Sky+ box was connected via:
Sky+ -> cat 6e cable -> 200mb homeplugs -> cat 6e cable -> sky router (port 1)
Now I hadn't tested Anytime+ since getting Fibre installed until this evening and I couldn't get it to the router until I connected the BTO modem to the switch and had 2 connections between the switch to the SKy router (one of which on port 1). Anytime+ started working correctly then.
Has anyone else found this or problem or was it just me ?

I am surprised that you current set up works at all.
I would encourage you to consider replacing the set of HomePlugs between the Modem and the Router with a suitable length of Cat 5e Ethernet cable. If necessary run it behind the wall & up through your loft with a suitable faceplate on the wall.

Re: Sky Anytime+ and connecting to the BTO modem with port 1
Trust me - the homeplugs aren't the issue. Router syncs at 39999/1999 (exactly the same sync speeds the BT engineer got with his kit) and speedtests are consistently coming back with 37.5/1.7.
The issue was that have the homeplug directly connected to port 1 on the sky router, meant that any other devices on a homeplug couldn't see see the router. Is port 1 'out' only perhaps ?

Re: Sky Anytime+ and connecting to the BTO modem with port 1
the link from the modem to the router on port 1 has to be seperate to any other part of your lan as port 1 is effectively working as a wan port not a lan port and should only direct all traffic from the other ports to the modem so if you use homeplugs for the modem to router link then i guess any other device using homeplugs would effectively be connecting into the same modem to router link and so will not work.
In essence it would be like trying to route the sky+hd box's connection into the ADSL port on an ADSL connection.

Ah, makes sense.
Still glad I got it sorted finally with no significant loss of speed
