Want fibre optic...but who cancels bt line etc ?

Phooey. It looks like the Intel Centrino 5100 PCI Express Mini Card isn't compatible with your Laptop. I do apologise. It looks like you will need to go about returning this one.

I went for the Intel cards as your existing WiFi adaptor is also made by Intel. There others available which don't use the Centrino chipset. The only other card I can find at the moment (I searched with Google too) is this one:

I would of thought that there would be some Broadcom versions too. A bit more searching:

That Tenda USB adaptor should be fine. I was trying to avoid a USB adaptor though.

There are some smaller ones available too now. Whether the reception is better or not I don't know, I haven't played with different ones to compare.

I do have this USB adaptor though, and the reception is excellent. It also comes with a short lead and a holder which could be placed on your Laptop's lid:

I have one of these which works very well, it even connects to my GT at 108mbps. 300mbps to my D-link.
