Unhappy Ordered Sky Fibre - Now no Internet!!

      Hi,

Ordered Sky Fibre along with Sky Talk on 14th April. In essence, cancelled BT phone line as well as O2 broadband.

Sky has given me the dates of 1st May for phone line activation (Sky Talk) and a BTO fibre installation for 30th April. Will be receiving the router today (according to Parcelforce).

This morning, they have moved me to Sky Talk, so telephone line is working but no internet connection . Do I have to wait until the Openreach installation (i.e. May 1st) for my broadband to work, or Sky broadband will work if I connect the Sky router replacing the O2 one?

While ordering they informed me that I will be without broadband just for 2 hours on the installation day, but it seems like I will be without one until 1st May.

Will contacting Sky or O2 serve any purpose? Please advise.

      P

When your new router arrives, plug it in and wait the new fibre router works on both ADSL and fibre but it may take a few mins to connect.

You of course loose your connection with o2 as soon as they move you on to SVBN (skys voice and broadband network). I think once your router arrives try and connect it and see what happens. ALso try calling 17070 and see if you get zoey skys automated system.

Re: Ordered Sky Fibre - Now no Internet!!

This is a problem Sky are looking at - current activation times for sky talk are around 14 days whilst BT openreach activate Fibre usually 15-17 days post order confirmation - so there is a 3 day possible broadband downtime. Sky are trying to look at setting the Sky Talk activation to be on the same day as the Fibre/Openreach day to coordinate but the process AFAIK is still being set up.

Spoke with O2, who says since I have cancelled BT line, automatically O2 broadband gets cancelled/disconnected. They are unable to do anything.

Spoke with Sky, who says I have to wait until the installation happens. The representative says since the router is meant for fibre, I wont be able to connect to ADSL and only fibre will work. Strange!!

I would say try and connect the sky router into you phone socket via a filter. It worked for andrewj when he transferred from Virgin to Sky.

Re: Ordered Sky Fibre - Now no Internet!!

People who had sky broadband before upgrading to sky fibre found if they plugged their new fibre router in it would work with ADSL but it did take a few minutes to connect. I just think either agents dont know this happens or they do not want the public to know. If they have swapped you over to skys network you maybe lucky and find that your adsl broadband may work.. Best thing to do is try it. When the router arrives un pack and connect to your master socket and leave it 10 minutes see what happens. To be honest the more I hear about the info sky agents give the more I think the forums do a better job.

Yes the router works fine on DSL. Mine is in.

There is a setting that basically makes the router try connecting via ADSL or WANoE (Fibre connections)

Plug it in and leave it 5-10 minutes, it should come up by itself (mine did)
