Because that's what you agreed to when you accepted the T & Cs. It has been a thorn in the flesh of users of this forum for years

It is really supposed to be so that the Help agents are familiar with the equipment being used so can support it better. This is a crock of smelly stuff which you will find out if you ask for help with port forwarding, attached devices, MAC filtering or just about anything else. If it is anything other than the router not connecting to the internet, they don't support it.

I've had the Billion 7800N for a while now and am very happy with it, originally connecting via PPOA as Mer would not connect, but Billion have been brilliant in producing a firmware that allows the 7800N to connect via Mer now, and they are in the process of producing a firmware release to allow Sky Fibre to connect with this router also, reading on their forum a beta release is due later this week. Check out the Billion Uk forum and check the post in the 7800 section entitled "Regarding 7800N for Sky Fibe test firmware".

      I definitely recomend the Billion.
