In most cases BT do not need any planning consent to install boxes but often they do need to dig up to fit a power supply and they update elgin. Click future planned works, also in the impact section click minimal, and then either surch by post code or street.
Not seen any signs of power going in (no fan noise from the cabinet) and nothing on The Elgin Roadworks for BT only for Virgin Media

Re: BT Update FTTC exchange list

The whole process of upgrading an exchange takes more than a few months, if you look at the local planning involved to actually getting it installed.

The difficulty is predicting which cabinets will be installed first and getting the connections between the exchange and the main backhaul networks upgraded. Since it is BTO's equipment, they will want to upgrade their backhaul before it goes live.

If all goes well, once you see someone on the streets starting the groundwork, you should expect it to be complete within a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

As for who is paying, the money is being funded through the EU. BDUK is in charge of allocating it out to whoever tenders the work. In most cases it is BTO who put up the tender. There are other companies getting the work, but these are the minority and covering specialist areas.

      thanks for that scubbie

i was only asking this because i found out that the government gave my local council 7.4 million to upgrade the exchanges around here and im not 100% sure that the council will have to find more extra money to get this work done

Re: BT Update FTTC exchange list

A nice big twitter post from BTO this morning with 27 new exchanges now accepting orders but for some reason it seems none of these exchanges were on the coming soon list from the last update so no changes to the list totals so far.

I can't be 100% sure whether or not the local council will be asked to help to or can subsidise the funding.

I would suggest that you check through the BDUK website for funding arrangements.

If you have difficulty finding the answer, consider putting in a FOI request. You could send this through to both your local authority and BDUK are required to respond to such requests.

One site that may be useful is this one:
WhatDoTheyKnow - Make and browse Freedom of Information (FOI) requests

Re: BT Update FTTC exchange list

We've just had our exchange (LCSOU) moved forward to June from December 2012 and another exchange in Ainsdale (LCAIN) has just gone live to accepting orders. Going to get a friend to try the Ainsdale one to see if it's up and running...

Re: BT Update FTTC exchange list

To be honest, I have no idea.

An FOI request may help to provide such information.

I know that the Royal Mail is subject to some aspects of the FOI, not so sure about BT as it is a PLC. I would suggest that you search the web site that I linked earlier to see if you can find anything to confirm that they can be asked directly.

Otherwise you will need to submit a request through your local council or BDUK or both.
