      Well, inbound rules that is.

I found this out the hard way too.
I assume you mean that you've not got any broadband at all at the minute. I have an active ADSL line and have been able to save inbound rules on the new, fibre, Sky router without any issue at all.

Once the router has connected, it would allow you to save the rules, according to what I have read.

As newsreader says. Once it's connected to an active line, be it VDSL or ADSL, you can apply inbound rules.

I used mine on ADSL for a few days before being switched over to fibre.

As you can guess from this thread, I thought it was a bug (well, it is but easily resolved)

Still waiting for everyone to spot the wireless isolation issue

Re: Port forwarding on the 2504N (fibre)

Re the port 25 issue I am still awaiting the resolution and here is the latest from Sky today

"The issue with this port should be resolved by the end of this week. We have had a slight delay because there were further ports also being affected. Once we have confirmation the required work has been carried out we will contact you to see that your issue has been resolved."

Well at least they are working on it - wonder if its firmware in the router ???

Re: Port forwarding on the 2504N (fibre)

There has been no further update from me re this post as Sky are not informing me what is going on.

I have just sent the following to there support team - lets see if anything happens !!

      Hi

Is there any news on this. It is very frustrating being told you are solving the issue and that it will all be done "by the end of the week".
I ask you to escalate this call, as I am a very frustrated customer.
Could someone please tell me what the problem is, and how you are going to fix it.
I am a professional Network Technician and will understand the technobabble !!
I would appreciate your earliest - but detailed response by return. I will not accept "end of the week" any more.

Exclamation Re: Port forwarding on the 2504N (fibre)

Well I have had a reply from SKY

Thank you very much for your email. I am sorry we have not been able to provide a definitive timescale previously, we were reliant on a separate department for the information we provided to you. I have now received an email from them stating the issue should be resolved. To allow you to see the benefit of this resolution we would ask that you power down your router and modem for a period of half an hour and then power them back up in the following order:

      Fibre Router Off
      Fibre Modem Off
Wait 30 mins - this period is to ensure your router is assigned a different IP address as well as resetting the network.
Fibre Modem On – wait until the power and DSL light are both on green
      Fibre Router On.

If you require further assistance or are still experiencing issues after following the instructions above please reply to this email or call us on XXXXXXXXXX

Guess What, I fell for it. and did it - with no changes - not even the IP address - and I waited 40mins!!!!

Hi - well it all works - I got the email below - but being 110 miles from home I couldnt do the reboot -however it all magically sprung into life !!!! I am a techie myself, and yes, a reboot is often the answer, but sometimes . . . .

      Good Afternoon Mr Castle

This is latest e-mail we have just got from our network team

      Hi,

We have had word back that our network team have completed further activities with regards to this port. Please can we request that you perfom the full power cycle of your router and modems once more. Again the following process must be followed:

      Turn off Sky Router
      Turn off OR Modem
      Leave for ½ hour
Turn on Modem , wait until power and DSL light are lit
      Turn on Router.

If you would be so kind as to report your finding to us by return email this would be much appreciated.

      Thank you

Thanks - it all works - no reboot required.

How did it take so long

I hope I am due some compensation for lack of service.

      Thanks again

After all it could have been a less pactient customer !!!

      Sky's reply

      Hi Mr Castle,

Thank you for letting us know that you have a fully working service. I am really glad that you are now able to utilise the email client you have previously had issues with. We are unsure of the exact process behind the resolution so I am afraid I cannot comment on why it took as long to resolve for you. All I can tell you is that your email prompted the network teams to have another look at the system they believed was fixed.

I will check with my manager , however I believe we are unable to offer compensation for the loss of service to a 3rd party email system. The nature of the issue does not fall within the terms and conditions of your contractual agreement for broadband as the service functioned, as did our email service. We are aware that 3rd party mail clients are able to offer a range of ports for use and this has been proved by other customers who were in the same situation as yourself.

As soon as I have any further news I will be back in touch with you. Once again I am glad to find you are now able to use your 3rd party mail client.

      Thank you.
