Point taken but there are (ahem) perhaps "more reliable" places to store files in the cloud that hopefully won't get taken down unexpectedly - like Dropbox or iCloud...

When I was speaking to Sky last week the guy indicated that their upload would only be a measly 2mbps which is less than double what they offer just now. That may however change when they officially launch the product.

This appears to be the consensus of many of the rumours I have heard.

For the present Sky is checking that the systems in place are working. We can't begrudge them that. Whether Sky increases the upload speed at the launch, a few months later or next year, we can't be certain.

Re: The BTO FTTC 80/20 Product Variant

I'd take the 10mbps upstream over 80mbps downstream, every time.

One concern....and my knowledge on this particular aspect is sketchy, so feel free jump in at any time.

With a 80/20 product, there is a theoretical max throughput of 100mbps on a line which is capable of achieving this rate . The current 2504N only has 100mbps Ethernet ports, so allowing for transfer overheads, it's theoretically possible the ethernet ports could become a bottleneck. I've no idea what the throughput rates of 100mbps Ethernet are, but would imagine you'll loose 10-15%?

Also, i'm taking a guess that the WAN -> LAN interface is only 100mbps too.(?)

The point i'm trying to illustrate, is that is Sky do offer the 80/20 package in the future, they are definitely going to have to come up with a higher spec'd router.

There is definitely a new higher spec'd router in the pipeline.

I know, i've heard the rumblings. I'm just an impatient sod.

IMHO, Sky should ditch the BTO Modem and Sagem router.
Spray it black, slap a ginormous Sky lable on it, and supply us all with this. DrayTek Vigor 2750 Series Router & Firewall with IPv6

And give us free broadband, at 100 meg for free for 5 years. Us Brits don't ask for much do we?

I remember paying nearly 100 a month for ISDN and that was only 64k lol (granted unlimited) but you could be connected all day everyday for a month and only download about 1 gig of data, pmsl. And have huge boxes drilled to your wall.

PS - Despite the rumours of having USB on the new router, unofficially, there are no plans for it. Shame, as it would be useful.
