Re: Migrating from Pipex

[rant]OK, Just got off the phone to Sky and guess what, it's all gone pear shaped again!!!

There are TAGS(?) on the line and these can take up to 30 days to remove. I am being told that all further orders (by Sky or anyone else) will fail until they are gone and that will be at least 10 days. So from placing my 1st order on the 18th Jan it looks like I may get broadband in early March!

I wouldn't so much mind but a perfectly good order was cancelled by Sky due to an 'administrative error'........

My contract with Pipex is up very soon and I can't even migrate to another ISP that may be competant enough to action an order, so I will be without broadband for a time!! Surely it can't be that difficult. [/rant]

Now I've got that off my chest, I feel better. I'll still end up ordering with them 'cos no-one else can provide me 16mb for a tenner a month I'm a sucker for a fast connection, that's why I ended up upgrading my connection to 2mb and getting tied to Pipex for 12 months......maybe I should learn from past mistakes!

Thanks for listening

One thing you could do mate is calll this number 0800 1690934 and ask them if there is any tags on the line.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Re: Migrating from Pipex

Many thanks for that, Wheelie.

Just phoned BT on that number and there are no TAGS on the line at all......

BT also told me that the MAC code was still valid and that I should have no problems using it.

Not sure what to do now.....

Re: Migrating from Pipex

As far as I know your MAC code wont work! This is because MAC codes won't work if your existing ISP uses LLU and MAC codes dont work between LLU providers! Both Pipex and Sky use LLU. I have just started working for a broadband company and I am sure this is the case, think you better phone up and make sure.

Lbn

Thanks for the heads up, but having checked my exchange with Samknows, Pipex have not yet LLU'd my exchange and there is no date set for it.

I will be keeping an eye on it anyway, as this is the 5th time I have ordered but so far things have gone better than usual.

Re: Migrating from Pipex

Well, things are still OK. Orders still exist and there is only a week left.

Fingers crossed.

Well, Good Luck Mark!

I am watching this with interest as I am (still) with Pipex but strongly considering moving to Sky. Just had a reply from Pipex to my query about faster/cheaper connections & mentioning Sky. They don't seem to be interested, yes I can have Pipex Max at £27 month. An invite to ring them if interested, I am not...

Keep us all informed & good luck again.

Wint

Re: Migrating from Pipex

I migrated from Pipex about 2 weeks ago and so far I'm very glad I did.
See my experience here : Skybroadband Feedback

Also, I found that Pipex had "throttled" speeds to certain 'p2p' sites without informing their users. The first I knew about this was when I went to (legally) download a music track from Tesco and my speed dropped to 20 kb/s !!! It took 6 mins to download a single track!

Make the move.

Best wishes,
MrTracey
