Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Been on Sky's Everyday package for just over 3 months with absolutely no problems. Router arrived 3 days before changeover which was seamless. Now consistently receiving around 8.2 to 8.3Mbps down and 0.5 to 0.51Mbps up. Was previously with Orange on a 2Mbps download speed for £18 per month so what I'm getting for a fiver is great in comparison. Only complaint was I originally signed up for the Mid package and within a few days found I had been moved to the Everyday package losing 30GB off my download limit. No prior notification and little sympathy from Sky when I complained. However moving to Everyday gave me approx. 1.4Mbps of a speed increase so it wasn't all bad news.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Since voting in this poll, I did have a problem with my BB caused by Sky's DLM. It was sorted with 2 emails. That's a good resolution in my books.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Connected, never any problems for me.

That may of course be because I was only connected Friday.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

I've had this since August and have been very pleased.

My speed has gone up twice more since the initial boost, as they have seen the line is stable and reduced the noise margin it seems.

I've gone from a 400k BT broadband (up to 8 meg.. lol), which was sometimes 100k at weekend, to 4.2 meg constantly.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Connected, activated but no router. Been waiting since the 14th for a router and Sky are on their second attempt at sending out one because initially they never sent out the first one! Can't judge the speeds yet.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

I was once a Sky Broadband customer, but no longer as I jumped ship when they introduced the price increase, if you did not take up Sky Talk, and went to O2, which a lot of people did.

While I was with them, the only complaint I had was the low speed that I was getting compared to other people around the area, which in all fairness is quite a common issue, and not something they could sort out. However their customer service is actually quite poor especially for BB, they really dont know what they are doing, unless you get through to someone in the UK. I have to say for a small amount extra on O2 I get a whole lot better customer service and double the speed that I had with Sky.

As for the download limits, I think that may have been an unavoidable step, but maybe it was too quick, I think that they should have stayed at 40GB on the Mid package and just enforced that rather then all in one go, reduce and begin enforcing.

I cant say that I regret moving from Sky, in today's market they dont really even have much edge on price to be honest.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Please Note beforehand this is only my opinion for 'Sky Connect' and not other packages.

Sky connect has to be possibly one of the worst Broadband packages in the UK Today. The average price for a measely over-throttled connection is appauling to say the least. I used to be employed by Virgin Media until late 2009, and I have never seen such a poor package in my Tech career,

Ive read numerous posts stating the same issues and it seems 6/10 people have appauling speeds and can rarely use the service after 5pm.

In my own experience I can back this up and say right now that once the clock hits 5pm your internet is as good as dead. I will now provide my evidence for this

first of all - My wiring is completely fine, Ive worked with ADSL & Cable so everything is perfect.

Im connected at the moment via Ethernet so there can be no Wireless Issue.

My computer is an Nvidia tesla desktop which is more than capable of handling broadband of VERY high speeds.

First days of service during throttle time:

Please note the date for some reason is completly wrong on that, As I have never been with the service that long.

Today: roughly 5pm+ After a blasting phonecall to sky telling them that the service is unusable for me

Note: Once again the time seems to be an hour behind its exactly 17:27 here

So what do you have, A service that will offer you nothing but crap until you waste an hour on the phone to them.

Unfortunately I have no option of using the Max/Unlim package due to my area. So yes I am dual running Virgin Media 50mb BB along with Sky Connect.

Thank You for listening to my rant and please do read when I say this is based on MY< opinion along with reviewing other threads and forums, This neednt apply to Users that have no problem with sky connect and remain happy with the service.

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

That is fairly old news
User05 has told us though that SKY should be getting some additional bandwidth for connect to alleviate some of the problems. Basically if you cant get SKY's LLU then your better going elsewhere!

Re: Poll: Your sky experience

Years ago Sky had 11 centrals. Centrals are used for BT based services, so if you put that into context, at least 3 years ago, when Sky had 11 centrals, they had x amount of customers.

Now 3 years later on, Sky have y amount of customers on Connect. To implement Centrals for y-x is I would bet is at least 3 times the amount that we had last heard about.

In other words, Sky now have shed loads more of customers on Connect than they did 3 years ago, and they are more than likely, losing money 3 times more hand over fist to actually offer them a service at all than they were doing before.

I would be very suprised if Sky introduce any more bandwidth for Connect customers than they have at present. Or if they do not proportional. My guess only and not fact.

The only way an ISP can be profitable is not to depend on BT based services. People will download the internet for £17 a month on any service.

Therefore Connect is the ugly duckling, or a grab all service only, to help with market share. Those on a Sky LLU connection I guarantee, are paying for those on Connect.
