Ok, I hang my head in shame. After re-booting router, the IP changed so that graph was plotting someone else's connection afterwards. Big whoops eh? However, at about twenty-to-eight tonight, the hub reset itself anyway. Or what I mean is the smiley face was flashing orange again, resulting in the following speed drop :

Have re-started another BB Quality Monitor on the new IP, and will watch it's progress, and update the thread as it moves into tomorrow.

No problem and it is easily done.

Just a little bit more experience this end in spotting those kinds of things.

Seems to have balanced out, but I can bet if I reset the Hub again, the downstream would jump to 12MB again! Nevermind, a stable connection all the same. And as close to double figures as I will get probably. Just if Sky could manually tweak the line it would be perfect, but thanks to DLM this no longer seems possible.

Re: Getting More Speed Than Estimate at Signup

If you could refrain from resetting the router as DLM can interpret this as a line fault if it is reset too often.

The changes to the DLM software over the past couple of years has really improved things a great deal.

Previously we frequently recommended that members contact Sky in order to get their lines manually reconfigured. This often produced a better connection speed than DLM could do.

Since the changes were introduced we have often seen far beeter results on the same kind of connections and some of the older ones which had been manually set.

I would say that in the majority of cases now DLM is doing a very good job today but it does help to have the right router too. The Sagem 2504N and both Sky Hubs have some additional software which means that they can make the most of the changes introduced last year (mainly G.INP).

As for your connection though, I am concerned with the spikes. Could you let it run for a whole day and post up updated graph.Hopefully we can get a better idea about what is happening.

Re: Getting More Speed Than Estimate at Signup

I would love to run a graph for more than 24 hours, but the Sky Hub SR101 keeps re-setting itself between 7pm & 8pm at night, which assigns a new IP on the BB Port. This means that a new graph needs to be generated by myself each night I monitor the connection. I have been assured by more than one agent @CST that DLM is currently paused to allow the Sky Engineers to see what may be affecting the connection. However, I will happily post router stats showing when connection last reset itself, and the graph up to the point tonight when I returned home to discover this again, having been out since about 12noon. Away to get milk from shop now, will post graph and stats when I return.

Re: Getting More Speed Than Estimate at Signup

Such a predictable time frame indicates that there is most likely to be some electrical device which is causing a problem.

Could you check what time your heating comes on? Does the time frame coincide with the router disconnecting?

It will happen at other random times through the morning/afternoon as well. But mainly when peak time hits. Hence why trying to convince agents it's the exchange rather than the almost impossible to prove and confirm REIN that has been mentioned over the last year.

Re: Getting More Speed Than Estimate at Signup

Hi all contributors, and viewers of the thread. Just hopping on the thread to give a quick update for you all. This quickly became a case that was escalated by an agent to the NOC (Network Operations Centre). Also sometimes referred to as the "Sky Engineers", or the Network Resolutions team. So, 14 months in and finally felt like I was getting somewhere.

However, I have the whole flat being decorated at present, so fiancee, two young girls, 2 cats, and dog are currently moved out, as am I to the in-laws. So it may be approximately another 2 weeks before we get OR out to thoroughly check everything again. I will keep posting here until it is resolved though, as it may prove useful to others to see the process involved, and that if they have similar issues, to know that it can be fixed with a bit of determination.

A quick update, this issue was never resolved and continued without explanation until my connection moved to FTTC on 28/02. Since then, nothing has happened, fibre it would seem was the fix for the out dated copper cabling to our exchange from the cabinet
